Confirmation of employment, Marcus Ilesanmi
Letter confirming employment for a rental application, written in facts
An employment confirmation letter is read by someone deciding whether to hand over a property, and they are looking for four facts and a person to call. This one puts the role, the start date, the employment type and the pay in a table, then names the payroll manager, her number and a reference to quote.

How to adapt this document
For a visa or immigration request, add rows for the duties in summary, the ordinary hours and the location of work, since those are the facts the decision maker checks, and keep the consent sentence exactly where it is. For a loan or mortgage application, add the pay frequency, whether the pay is a salary or an hourly rate, and the date of the most recent increase, because a lender is testing stability rather than the amount alone. For a casual employee, replace the employment type and base pay rows with the engagement pattern, the hourly rate including the casual loading and the average hours over a stated period, and say plainly that there is no guaranteed pattern of work, which is the honest version of the same letter.
What makes this document work
Consent is stated in the first paragraph
The letter says it is written at his request, with his written consent, for the rental application above. An employer who releases pay details without that sentence has a privacy problem, and an agent who reads it knows the letter was not extracted from someone without the employee's knowledge.
Six rows, all of them checkable facts
Warehouse Coordinator at the Ashford depot, full time and ongoing with 38 ordinary hours, continuous service since 4 March 2024, $74,500 a year paid fortnightly in arrears, and no end date given by either side. Every row is something payroll can confirm, and nothing is an opinion.
Verification has a name, a number and a limit
Call Adaeze Nwosu on 7100 8840 quoting EC-2026-241, and the callout adds that the facts in the table are confirmed and nothing further without fresh written consent. That last clause protects the employee from a follow up call that turns into a reference about their character.
Questions people ask
What should an employment confirmation letter include?
The employee's name, the position, the employment type and hours, the start date and whether service is continuous, the base pay, and a contact for verification. Anything beyond that, such as performance or the reason for a past absence, belongs in a reference, not a confirmation, and needs its own consent.
Is this the same as a reference letter?
No. A confirmation states facts on the day it is written. A reference gives an opinion about conduct or performance, which is why the closing paragraph here says the letter is not a reference about conduct. Keeping them separate protects the employer from a claim that an opinion was presented as a fact.
Does the employer have to give one?
There is usually no obligation to write one on demand, although employers do have to keep accurate employment and pay records. Most employers write them as a matter of course, which is why having a standard shape and a reference number makes the request routine rather than a favour.
Should the letter include bonuses or overtime?
Only with a plain warning that they are not guaranteed, and only if the employee asked for them to be included. Variable earnings help a rental application but they also let a reader assume a higher income is permanent. Base pay with the hours attached is the safer statement.
Can the employer refuse to confirm the salary?
Yes, and some do as a matter of policy, confirming only the role and the dates. If the employee needs income evidence, payslips or a payment summary do that job directly. What an employer should not do is give the number to a caller who has not been authorised by the employee.
How long is the letter valid?
It speaks as at its date, which is why the closing paragraph says exactly that. Agents and lenders usually want one issued within the last month. Reissuing takes minutes when the facts live in a table, which is another reason to keep opinion out of it.

Character reference letter template built on two things the writer saw
A character reference is only worth reading when the writer says how they know the person, for how long, and what they actually watched them do. This one gives seven years as a next door neighbour, states there is no family tie and no interest in the outcome, and then describes two dated incidents.
Notice to vacate template for a tenant giving notice on a periodic lease
A renter ending a periodic agreement has to give the right number of days and prove later that the notice arrived. This one dates the notice, counts 33 days against a 28 day requirement, says it travels with the approved form, and settles rent, bond, keys and the final inspection on the same page.
Contract termination letter template that cites the clause it relies on
A termination letter is judged on one thing later: whether it ended the contract the way the contract said it could be ended. This one names clause 14.2, counts the 60 days, fixes the last day of service, and settles the handover and the final invoice before anyone has to ask.
