Landing page vs website

A landing page is a single page built for one action, usually for a campaign, while a website is a set of pages that serves many visitors and questions over time. Start with a landing page to test one offer or collect a waitlist; build a website when you have several services, regular customers or need to be found on search.

Most businesses eventually have both: a website as the permanent home, and landing pages for campaigns that point visitors at one thing.

Two tools for two jobs

A landing page is a focused tool: one offer, one audience, one button. A website is a home: it explains everything the business does, answers questions, builds trust and gives every kind of visitor a route. Confusing the two produces either a website that tries to sell one thing to everyone or a landing page loaded with links.

When to start with a landing page

Before launch, to test whether anyone wants the offer; for a single event or product; or when all your traffic comes from one place, such as an ad or your social profile. A landing page is quick to build, easy to measure and easy to throw away if the idea changes.

When you need a website

When you offer several services, when customers return, when you want to be found on search for different questions, or when partners and staff need somewhere to learn about you. A website takes longer to build and maintain, and it compounds: each useful page keeps bringing visitors.

Common mistakes

Sending ad traffic to the home page instead of a matching landing page, building a full website before validating the offer, and letting campaign landing pages pile up long after the campaign ends. Archive or redirect old landing pages so visitors do not find expired offers.

Where it shows up in OneCraft

Landing page and Website are two of the ten kinds in the generator, and each site has its own onecraft.live address, so a campaign page can live beside your main site. Each site counts toward your plan site limit, which is 1 on Free, 3 on Starter and 10 on Pro.

Questions people ask

Can a landing page be part of my website?

Yes. A landing page can be a page on your main site, hidden from the menu and linked only from the campaign. It can also be a separate site on its own address. A separate site keeps campaign experiments away from your main site and its search listing.

Do I need a website if I have a landing page?

Not at first. If one offer is all you sell and campaigns bring all your visitors, a landing page may be enough. Once customers start searching for you, asking about other services or returning, a website with several pages serves them better.

Which is better for Google Ads?

A landing page that matches the ad closely: the same offer, words and audience. Ad platforms judge the relevance of the page to the ad, and visitors stay when the page delivers exactly what the ad promised, without having to hunt through a home page.

Is a home page a landing page?

Only in the loose sense that visitors land on it. A home page serves many audiences and routes them, so it is not built around one action. Treating the home page as a campaign landing page usually weakens both the campaign and the home page.

How many landing pages should I have?

One per distinct campaign or offer that runs at the same time, with its own message. Retire them when the campaign ends. A few current, focused landing pages beat a pile of old ones that confuse visitors and split your measurement.
