Landscaping quote
Landscaping quote example for a back garden makeover
A landscaping quote should price measurable work by the metre or square metre, so the customer can see how the size of the garden drives the cost. This example from a Perth landscaper prices a back garden with a 12 metre retaining wall, 85 square metres of turf, planted beds and reticulation at $12,900 including GST, with paving and lighting as options.

Why landscaping quotes should use unit prices
A garden is mostly measured work: metres of wall, square metres of turf or paving, cubic metres of soil. A lump sum price hides that, so the customer cannot tell whether a cheaper quote is cheaper per metre or measures less. This quote prices each measured item by its unit and puts the measured amount in the quantity column. If the customer wants a shorter wall or more paving, the change is obvious. The note adds the rule for differences between the site visit and the final measure, which avoids the most common landscaping dispute: a bill that does not match the quote because the job was bigger than anyone thought.
How the price adds up
Clearing is $1,400, the wall is 12 metres at $310, $3,720, the turf 85 square metres at $38, $3,230, the beds $2,600 and reticulation $1,950, a total of $12,900 including GST. Paving is optional at $95 a square metre with a range of 10 to 30; the default 24 square metres adds $2,280. Lighting adds $1,200. With both at the default paving area the total is $16,380. The 20% deposit books the start date, and the balance is invoiced when the garden is finished, because most of the cost is labour on site.
How to adapt this quote
Measure at the site visit and put the measurement in the quantity column, not just the description. Price walls, turf, paving and mulch by their units. Say how long the work takes, since the customer has to live around it. If your area has watering restrictions, design the reticulation to them and say so. Check whether any structure, such as a higher retaining wall or a pergola, needs approval from the council before you quote it, and make the customer aware. Give a guarantee on plants that depends on watering, because you cannot control that part.
What makes this quote work
Size is priced by the unit
The wall is 12 metres at $310, the turf 85 square metres at $38 and the paving $95 a square metre. The note says the per metre prices apply to the actual amount if final measurements differ, so the customer knows exactly how a change in size moves the price.
It fits the local rules
Reticulation is set to the customer's watering days, which Perth households are allocated by the Water Corporation, and the beds use waterwise local plants. Writing the garden around the watering rules shows the landscaper knows where it is working.
Digging risks are handled
Clause 2 commits to locating services before digging and stopping if an unknown pipe or cable is found. It is the risk a homeowner thinks of last and pays for most, and the quote deals with it plainly.
Questions people ask
What should a landscaping quote include?
The scope from the site visit, each item with its measured quantity and unit price, how long the work takes, what is removed, the plants and materials, reticulation, optional extras, GST, the deposit and balance, what happens with underground services, guarantees and validity. This example covers each on three A4 pages.
How much does it cost to landscape a back garden?
It depends on the size and what goes in. This example quotes $12,900 including GST for a Perth back garden with clearing, a 12 metre limestone wall, 85 square metres of turf, two planted beds and reticulation. Adding 24 square metres of paving and lighting would bring it to $16,380.
Why does a landscaping quote price by the square metre?
Because the cost of turf, paving and mulch rises with area, and a unit price lets the customer compare quotes fairly and change the size. This quote prices turf at $38 and paving at $95 per square metre, and applies those rates if the final measure differs from the site visit.
Do landscapers guarantee plants?
Many do for a short time, on condition the plants are watered. This quote guarantees plants and turf for 3 months if they are watered as the reticulation is set, and workmanship for 12 months. A guarantee without a watering condition is one most landscapers cannot afford to give.
Should a landscaping quote include a deposit?
A small one is common to secure the start date. This quote asks for 20% on acceptance, issued as an invoice with a card pay link, and invoices the balance on completion. A larger deposit is usual only when expensive materials must be ordered in advance.

Roofing quote example for a tile roof restoration
A roofing quote should price the safety set up, count the repairs, and measure the coating by area, so the owner can see what each part of the job costs. This example from a Melbourne roofer restores a 185 square metre concrete tile roof for $8,062 including GST, with new gutters and gutter guard as options.
Renovation quote example for a laundry
A renovation quote should price each trade, state any allowances for things the owner still has to choose, and say what contract follows. This example from a Leichhardt builder prices a full laundry renovation at $14,780 including GST, with tiles to an allowance, a 10% deposit, and a note that a written contract follows before work starts.
Plumbing quote example for a hot water system replacement
A plumbing quote should separate the product from the labour, say what is removed and what certificate is issued, and tell the customer how long they will be without water. This example from a Central Coast plumber replaces a failed electric storage unit with a 270 litre heat pump for $4,640 including GST, with two small extras the customer can add.
