Salon video maker

Salon video runs on the transformation, and the transformation is the part regulators treat most seriously. A before and after is judged as a testimonial style claim, which means it has to be genuine, unmanipulated, and backed by signed dated proof that it is both.

A video frame reading Balayage, two hours, with a line saying Verity Hair Studio, a free colour consultation first and a toner refresh at six weeks.
The service stated plainly for a fictional salon. No before and after, so there is no substantiation to hold on file.

What a before and after obliges you to hold

Advertising codes treat before and after imagery as making a performance claim, so the pictures must be genuine and must not be manipulated in any way that is relevant to the apparent result. Retouching the after shot is out. So is a different light, a different angle or a blow dry on one and not the other. The obligation is documentary: you should be able to produce signed and dated evidence that the photographs are real and unaltered. Practically that means shooting both in the same chair, in the same light, on the same day.

The client in the frame needs written permission

Referring to or portraying a member of the public in advertising requires their permission, and a verbal yes in the chair is not evidence. Get it in writing, name the places the video will run, and keep it. A client who is happy to be photographed for your window may feel differently about a paid ad, and the permission has to cover what you actually intend to do.

If you offer injectables, you cannot advertise them

This one surprises people and it is absolute in the United Kingdom. Prescription only cosmetic injectables cannot be advertised to the public at all. You cannot name the brand, you cannot use the generic drug name, you cannot use an indirect reference such as wrinkle relaxing treatment, you cannot show a before and after of the treatment even without words, you cannot use influencers to promote it, and it cannot appear on your homepage or your social accounts. Separate rules keep non surgical cosmetic advertising away from audiences where a quarter or more are under eighteen, and ban trivialising it as a lunch break procedure.

The music trap is silent

A salon posting from a business account cannot use chart music. Both major short form platforms restrict business accounts to their own commercial libraries, and one states plainly that those tracks may not be used off platform, which also blocks reposting the same cut to your website. The penalty is not a takedown, it is muting or reach suppression, so a salon can keep posting the same way for months without ever being told. Build with a cleared track and add a platform sound in the app if you want one.

How it works, in three steps

  1. Step 1

Shoot both ends in the same conditions

Same chair, same light, same day, no retouching on either. That is what makes the reveal usable rather than a claim you cannot support.

  2. Step 2

    Get the permission in writing

Name the client, name where the video will run, and keep the record. This applies to anyone recognisable in the frame.

  3. Step 3

    Score it from the library

Pick one of the thirteen cleared tracks rather than baking in a chart song, and add a platform sound after upload if you want one.

Limits worth knowing

Questions people ask

Can I show a client's face?

With written permission covering the specific uses. Without it, shoot the hair or the nails rather than the person, which is what most of the strongest salon content does anyway.

What if I only mention injectables in the caption?

In the United Kingdom that is the same breach. The prohibition covers naming the product, the generic name and indirect references, wherever they appear, including captions, hashtags and on-screen text.

Is a price list video a good idea?

It works, and prices are the thing clients search for. Bear in mind a price typed into the brief is fixed text in the exported file, so a price change means rebuilding and re-exporting rather than editing a caption.

Should the stylist speak?

It helps, and the way to do it here is a quote scene carrying their words with their name, or an uploaded clip of them talking. There is no filmed talking head produced by the tool itself.
