Gift card promo flyer

Quillon & Co. sells gift cards from $20 to $500 and has decided the most persuasive thing about them is the law. A card sold in Australia has to last at least three years and cannot be eaten by fees, so all three flyers put that where the discount usually goes: one as a headline over a photograph, one as an editorial page about three ways to give, and one as a numbered rules sheet with the statistics on top.

The 3 designs

The same business laid out three ways, on three templates and three colour themes. Every price, name and time on these was written for this example, so you can judge the layouts on real content rather than placeholder text.

WHAT TO EXPECT
A gift card sold in Australia has to run at least three years from the day it is bought, and the expiry has to be shown on the card. There is no activation fee, no monthly fee eating the balance and no charge to spend it. The fees still allowed are narrow, a surcharge or a lost card replacement, and we charge neither.
Three years is the floor, not a favour.

What makes these work

The poster turns a legal minimum into the headline

A card that lasts three years, then one button and one line of fine print. Most gift card advertising sells the occasion. Selling the validity period instead answers the objection that actually stops the purchase, which is the buyer’s memory of a card that expired unused in a drawer.

The editorial sheet gives the same card three shapes

Plain, boxed with a tea towel, or posted with a handwritten note. One product, three purchase decisions, and each one carries the same reminder that the three years apply to all of them. It reads like a shop with a point of view rather than a rack next to the register.

The rules page opens with three numbers

Three years, zero fees, twenty dollars. Those are the three questions a buyer asks in order, answered before the four numbered paragraphs start, and putting the smallest card size in the stat row quietly tells a hesitant buyer they are allowed to spend twenty dollars.

Questions people ask

How long does an Australian gift card have to last?

At least three years from the day it is supplied, for cards sold to consumers on or after 1 November 2019, and the expiry date has to be displayed prominently on the card or its packaging. Businesses can give longer, and some do, but three years is the floor rather than a favour, which is the line printed on the second flyer here.

What fees can a gift card carry?

Post supply fees are banned, so no activation fee, no account keeping fee, no balance enquiry fee and no inactivity fee. A narrow set survives, including a payment surcharge that reflects the cost of the payment method, currency conversion, booking fees that match the normal fee for that payment method, and a charge to replace a lost, stolen or damaged card.

Are any gift cards exempt from the three year rule?

Several are. Reloadable cards, cards donated free of charge for promotional purposes, cards for goods or services available only for a limited time, genuine discount sales, employee reward schemes, customer loyalty programs, second hand cards, and cards supplied to specified charities or government agencies all sit outside it. A plain shop card sold at the counter does not.

What happens if a customer loses the card?

That depends on the shop, because nothing in the expiry rules forces a replacement. A business is allowed to charge a fee to reissue a lost, stolen or damaged card. The flyers here promise one free reissue against the original receipt, which is a policy rather than a legal minimum and is worth saying out loud for exactly that reason.
