AI website builders compared for small business in 2026

Every major website builder now says it uses AI, but they use it for very different jobs: writing a first draft, editing a canvas, writing real code or running marketing for you. This comparison sets seven of them side by side from their own published pages, checked on 13 October 2026, so you can match the tool to the job.

The best AI website builder for a small business in 2026 is the one whose AI does the job you need: writing a complete first draft, helping you design on a canvas, writing real code, or running marketing tasks for you. They all say AI, but they mean different things, and the difference shows the moment the first draft lands and you need to change something.

The table below this article sets seven builders side by side, using each one’s own description of its AI and features, as published on 13 October 2026. Prices are left out on purpose: plans change often, and each builder’s pricing page is the place to check them.

Four kinds of AI website builder

Reading the builders’ own pages, four approaches stand out.

Draft writers take a description and write the whole site: pages, copy, images and a theme. OneCraft’s section builder works this way, as do the first steps of Wix, Hostinger and Durable. The value is speed to a complete draft; the question is how easy the draft is to correct.

Canvas assistants keep a design canvas at the centre and add AI to it. Framer describes agents that work directly on the canvas for design, CMS and code, and Webflow says its AI can build a site, modify page designs, generate copy and generate code inside a professional visual designer. These suit people who enjoy designing.

Code writers produce source code you can see. Hostinger lists a code editor and export, Webflow builds React components with AI, and OneCraft’s Code mode writes a React Router, Tailwind and shadcn/ui project for each site, built and checked on every change.

Business assistants treat the website as one part of running the business. Durable pairs a site generated in seconds with bookings synced to a calendar, a CRM, review requests and AI agents that publish blog posts and research competitors.

What happens after the first draft

The first draft is the easy part for every tool. What matters is the next hundred changes. On a drag and drop canvas you can move anything, which is freedom and also a way to break the layout on a phone. On a section builder you change content and swap layouts from a tested library, which is quicker and harder to get wrong, but limits unusual designs.

Ask each tool to do the same three things after generating: change the opening hours everywhere, add a new service page, and make the site work in dark colours. How many steps each takes tells you more than the demo does. OneCraft, for example, keeps hours in the contact and hours sections, adds pages from the pages list with their own search settings, and switches every palette between light and dark in one click.

Stores, forms and the parts that are not the website

A small business site is rarely only pages. It takes enquiries, maybe bookings, maybe orders. Wix lists eCommerce, scheduling and a blog among its business tools. Squarespace bundles commerce, memberships, courses and free invoicing. Durable focuses on bookings and leads. Hostinger sells physical products, digital downloads and services with many payment methods and carrier tracking.

OneCraft includes a store paid through Stripe Checkout into your own account, with variants, stock held during checkout, discount codes, shipping zones and pickup, plus contact forms that land in an inbox. It has no booking calendar and no email campaign tool, which some of the others do.

Code and ownership

If you may ever hand the site to a developer, look at what you can take away. A section or canvas site usually lives only on its platform. Builders that write code differ in how open they are: some offer a code editor, some sync to Git, some offer a download. OneCraft’s Code mode keeps a git history inside the product and offers a zip download, but files are read only in the builder and change only through its AI chat, which runs a type check, a linter, the build and a layout test before a change can go live.

How to choose in an afternoon

  1. Write a 300 character description of your business: who you serve, what you sell, why people trust you, and the one action you want.
  2. Paste it into two or three builders from different groups in the table.
  3. For each draft, make the same three edits and time them.
  4. Check the parts that are not pages: forms, store, domain connection.
  5. Read each pricing page with your own numbers: the plan, the domain and the fee on each sale.

Whichever you pick, the description is the same work, and writing a good brief improves every tool’s first draft.

Where each fits

Wix suits owners who want the most tools and freedom. Squarespace suits creatives who want polish and memberships in one bundle. Webflow and Framer suit designers and teams. Durable suits service businesses that want bookings and marketing handled. Hostinger suits people who also want hosting and email in one bill. OneCraft suits owners who want the AI to write a clean, mobile safe site with a store and an inbox, and a code route for later. Questions people ask

Which AI website builder is best for a small business?

The one whose AI does the job you need. If you want the AI to write the whole site and keep editing simple, a section based generator suits you. If you want design control, a canvas builder with AI help does. If you need bookings and a CRM, an all in one business builder fits better.

Can an AI website builder write my whole site?

Several can produce a full first draft from a description, with pages, copy, images and a theme. The draft still needs your facts, prices and photos checked. Builders differ most after the first draft: how easy it is to change, and what parts, such as a store or forms, come built in.

Are AI generated websites good for SEO?

They can be, if the content is accurate and specific to your business and the platform publishes clean pages with titles, descriptions and a sitemap. Generic AI copy that could describe any business ranks poorly. Edit the draft so every page says something only your business can say.

Do AI website builders own my content?

Your words, images and data remain yours under most terms of service, but the site format is usually tied to the platform. Builders that write real code often let you download it. Read the terms and check what you can export before you invest heavily in one platform.

How much does an AI website builder cost?

Most offer a free plan with limits and paid plans for custom domains, stores and more AI use, often measured in credits. Compare current prices on each pricing page and add domain costs and payment fees per sale, since headline plan prices rarely tell the whole story.

Should I choose a builder that writes code?

Choose code if you expect custom features or may hand the site to a developer, and check that every change is tested before going live. For a standard small business site, a section builder is usually quicker to keep accurate, because you edit content in panels rather than through code.
