A Canva Docs alternative for contracts and reports
Canva Docs is a beautiful place to write something people scroll, with banners, Scrollables and millions of templates behind it. A contract or a board report is a different object: it has pages, clauses, a cover and a signature at the end, and that is what this comparison is about.

The short verdict
Canva Docs suits a team that already lives in Canva, wants a document that looks designed, and works on it together with comments and suggestions. OneCraft suits the document that has to behave like a document: paginated, in a legal or corporate register, with numbered clauses where the brief calls for them, exported as a PDF and signed with a certificate.

Where Canva Docs is better
The template library
Canva counts 1.6 million or more templates on the free plan and 3.6 million or more with premium, including document starting points such as Project Plan and Employee Handbook. There are no templates here at all, so the only reusable artefact is the prompt. For anyone who works by picking a look first, that is a decisive difference.
Design assets and brand governance
Brand Kits scale from one on Free to a hundred with approvals on Business, sitting on top of a premium asset library and hundreds of gigabytes of storage. OneCraft has ten themes and a theme generator, which is enough to set a register but nothing like a managed brand system with approvals.
Editing together in the document
Real time collaboration with comments, reactions, suggesting mode and task assignment, extended to teammates without a Canva account, is exactly how a report gets written by a team. Here there is one editor at a time and saved versions, so collaborative drafting has to happen somewhere else.
Documents built for scrolling
Banners, Scrollables and outlines make a Canva Doc pleasant to read on a screen, and data becomes scrollable interactive design rather than a printed figure. A OneCraft document is paginated for print and PDF, which is the wrong shape for something meant to live as a web page.
Where OneCraft is different
Pages, not a scroll
Page breaks, sections, dividers and spacers are blocks a writer places, and a footer with page numbers goes on anything multi page. A cover is added only where a reader expects one, never to an invoice, receipt, letter or a document under three pages, so the file prints the way it reads.
The register is decided first
Every brief is classified before writing: prose or record, one page or long, flat or numbered or tabular, legal or corporate or editorial or personal. A contract brief comes back with numbered clauses and a corporate report comes back with sections and tables, without a template being chosen.
Signing is part of the document
A signature block holds one party per signer, and sending the document turns those parties into envelope recipients with their own identity checks. The completed PDF is certified so a later edit breaks the seal, with an 18 event hash chained log and a certificate of completion behind it.
Charts and diagrams that belong to the file
Six chart types and five diagram variants sit among 45 component types, alongside tables, callouts and key value layouts. A results chart and a process flow go into the case study or the report directly, and they render into the PDF at the same fidelity as the text.

Canva's pricing page, checked 20 September 2026, lists Free at US$0 a year for one person with one Brand Kit limited to three colours, 5 GB of storage and up to 20 AI uses, Pro at US$144 a year for one person with five Brand Kits and 100 GB, Business at US$250 a year per person with a hundred Brand Kits, approvals and 500 GB, and Enterprise on request. OneCraft's pricing page lists Free at $0 with 150 AI credits a month, Starter at $8, Pro at $25 and Pro Plus at $125 a month, priced per account rather than per person.
Moving a document across
Download the Canva Doc as a PDF and attach that PDF to the generator, which reads it for its headings, key points and labelled values instead of searching the web. Paragraphs come back rewritten rather than copied, so paste any passage that must stay word for word into the prompt box. Banners, Scrollables, brand kits and embedded design assets do not carry over. Anything whose value is the design and the scroll should stay in Canva; what moves well is the structure and substance of a report or an agreement.
What could not be checked
The Canva Docs page names templates, Magic Write, charts and tables, collaboration, export and page furniture, and mentions no signature, contract or Word export feature, so those rows say exactly that rather than asserting an absence elsewhere in Canva. Prices on the pricing page are annual and exclude tax, and the page states them in US dollars.
How the OneCraft side was verified
Each cell names a row in an internal ledger checked against the product's source code: the classification the generator runs before writing, the 45 component types, the 6 chart types and 5 diagram variants, the 7 cover layouts and 4 letterhead styles, the 10 theme presets and the Theme Studio, the text only scope of the chat assistant, the server rendered PDF and the signing handover.
Who should stay with Canva Docs
Stay with Canva Docs if the document should look designed and be read on a screen, if a template library and brand kits keep a team consistent, or if several people write and comment at once. This page is for the contract, policy or report that has to be paginated, printed, exported as a PDF and signed with evidence behind it.
Questions people ask
Are there document templates to start from?
No. There is no template gallery and no content library, so every document is generated from a written brief of up to 10,000 characters. The prompt is the thing worth saving and reusing. Canva counts millions of templates including document starting points, so anyone who works by choosing a layout first is better served there.
Can a contract be signed after it is written?
Yes. Put a signature block in the document, one party per signer with name, title, company and date lines, and sending it creates a signing envelope with those parties as recipients. Each gets an identity check and the completed PDF comes back PAdES certified, with a certificate of completion available separately.
Does the document paginate properly for print?
Yes. Page breaks are blocks placed while writing, sections and spacers control the flow, and a footer with page numbers goes on multi page documents. Covers are only added where a reader expects one. A Canva Doc is built to scroll, with page format applied at download, which is a different design goal.
Can my team comment on the draft?
No. There is one editor at a time with saved versions to return to, and no comments, reactions, suggesting mode or task assignment. The in editor chat assistant changes text only. A report several people write together is better drafted where collaboration is built in, then finished and signed here.
Can I use my brand colours and fonts?
Through themes. Ten presets cover the usual registers and the Theme Studio generates a new one from a sentence such as a warm and confident law firm, deep burgundy on ivory. That sets type and colour for the whole document, but it is not a managed brand kit with approvals across a team.
What formats can the finished document be downloaded in?
PDF, rendered on the server with headless Chromium and polled until it is ready, so the downloaded file matches the editor canvas exactly. There is no Word or image export. Canva Docs offers PDF download in several format options, and its Docs page does not name a Word export either.
