What is a conversational form?
A conversational form shows one question at a time, full screen, and moves to the next when the person answers. Instead of a page of fields it feels like a short exchange. The same answers come back as a classic form; what changes is the pace, the amount on screen, and how much the person can see of what is ahead.
One question a screen is either the kindest way to ask ten things or an infuriating way to ask three. The difference is entirely in the length and the stakes.

When it lifts completion
When the form is long enough that seeing it all at once is discouraging, when it is being filled on a phone, and when the person has no prior relationship with whoever is asking. A welcome screen that says what this is and how long it takes, followed by one question at a time, converts better than a wall of twenty fields. The gain comes from reducing what somebody has to look at, not from the animation.
When it is the wrong choice
Short forms, where three fields on one page is simply faster. Anything somebody fills in repeatedly, where an expert wants to tab between fields rather than press continue nine times. And anything where the answers depend on each other, because a person cannot see what they put two screens ago without going back. For a booking with a date, a time and a name, classic wins.
What the two builders do not share
The two form types are not the same set of blocks. Some fields exist only on the conversational side, such as a combined profile screen and recorded answers, and some behave differently or fall back to plain text. Before committing to one, check that the specific field you need actually works in that builder, rather than assuming feature parity.
Questions people ask
Does a conversational form get more responses?
Usually on longer forms and on mobile, where the alternative is a page somebody has to scroll. On a three field form there is nothing to gain and a little to lose, because you have turned one screen into three. The length of the form is the deciding factor, not the style.
Can people go back and change an answer?
Yes, but it costs more than on a classic form, where everything is visible. That is the main trade: the interface is calmer but reviewing is harder. If your form asks people to reconcile several answers, such as totals that must match, classic is the kinder choice.
Do the answers come back differently?
No. The responses land in the same table with the same columns and export the same way. The choice is about how it is asked, not about what you get, so you can pick on the experience alone.
Does every field type work in both?
No, and this is the thing to check before you build. Some field types are conversational only, and a few do not render properly there and fall back to a plain text box. If a specific field matters, test it in the builder you plan to publish from.
Should there be a progress indicator?
Yes, on anything longer than about five questions. The main risk of one question at a time is that people cannot tell how much is left, and a form with no visible end is a form people abandon in the middle. A simple count of remaining questions is enough.
