Resize PDF pages to A4, Letter or any size
To resize PDF pages, choose a paper size and every page is scaled onto it and centred. Fit keeps the whole page and leaves a white edge where the shapes differ; fill covers the sheet and trims what overhangs. A preview shows where each page lands before you save.

How it works
- 1
Drop the PDF
The page count and the current sizes appear, such as 10 at Letter portrait and 2 at A4 landscape, with a warning if the file has form fields or links.
- 2
Pick the new size
A4, Letter, A3, A5, Legal, Tabloid, or a custom width and height in millimetres. Orientation matches each page to start, so a landscape page stays landscape.
- 3
Choose fit or fill
Fit shows the whole page with a white edge where the shapes differ. Fill covers the sheet edge to edge and trims the overhang. Step through the preview to check each page.
- 4
Save the new PDF
Every page is redrawn on the new sheet and the file downloads with the size in its name. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored, ever.
Why A4 and Letter do not swap cleanly
A4 is 210 by 297 mm and US Letter is 8.5 by 11 inches, about 216 by 279 mm. Letter is wider and shorter, so the two shapes never match. A Letter page fitted onto A4 is scaled to 97% and gets a white band at the top and bottom; an A4 page fitted onto Letter is scaled to 94% with white at the sides. Fill avoids the white by scaling up until the sheet is covered, which trims a sliver from two edges instead. For text documents fit is the safe choice, and for artwork that runs to the edge fill usually looks better.
What happens to each page
Each page is taken by its crop box, the area a PDF viewer actually shows, and drawn onto a fresh sheet at one scale, so its proportions never stretch. A page saved with a rotation flag is turned upright first, so a sideways scan lands the right way round. Text stays as text and vector drawings stay sharp, because the page is placed on the sheet rather than turned into an image. Pictures inside the page keep their own resolution.
Mixed page sizes in one file
Scanned bundles, merged contracts and printouts from different offices often mix A4 and Letter, or drop a landscape table into a portrait report. Putting them all on one paper size makes printing predictable and gives every page the same edges. With orientation left on Match each page, a landscape page goes onto a landscape sheet of the new size. Choose Portrait or Landscape to force every sheet one way, and each page is scaled to fit whichever way it faces.
Limits worth knowing
Drawing a page onto a new sheet keeps how it looks, not how it works. Form fields become flat, links stop working and bookmarks are dropped, so resize a final copy rather than a form someone still has to fill in. Fill trims the overhang, which can clip a page number or a footer, and the preview shows where. A margin in millimetres, under Advanced options, shrinks the area the page is scaled into and keeps content clear of the unprinted strip many desktop printers leave at the edge of the sheet.
When the document is still yours to change
If the PDF came from a document you are still writing, rebuilding it is often cleaner than rescaling it. The document generator works from a prompt of up to 10,000 characters and exports a PDF rendered on the server, so a short description of the report gets you a fresh version to edit.
Limits
- Form fields and links are lost when a page is drawn onto a new sheet: fields become flat and links stop working. The tool counts them and says so before you save.
- Bookmarks are not carried into the new file.
- Fill trims whatever overhangs the sheet, so check the preview for text near the edges.
- Pages are scaled, not reflowed: text grows or shrinks with the page and is never rewrapped.
What it does not do
- It does not add bleed or crop marks for commercial printing.
- It does not resize only some pages; every page goes onto the chosen size.
- It does not reflow text to suit the new width.
Questions people ask
Will resizing make the text blurry?
No. The page is placed on the new sheet as it is, so text stays as text and vector drawings stay sharp at any scale. Only pictures inside the page are limited by their own resolution, exactly as before. A scanned page is one picture, so it looks the same as the original at the new size, no sharper and no softer.
How do I make a Letter PDF print properly on A4?
Drop the file, pick A4 and leave Fit selected. Each Letter page is scaled to 97% and centred, leaving a thin white band at the top and bottom, and nothing is cut off. Print the result at actual size rather than fit to page, so the printer does not scale it a second time.
Can I resize just one page?
Not here, because every page goes onto the chosen size. To change one page, take it out with the extract pages tool, resize that single page file, then put it back with the merge tool. If you only need to print one odd page, most print dialogs can scale a single page without touching the file.
Does the new file get bigger?
Usually a little. Each page is wrapped so it can be placed on the new sheet, and in testing a 49 KB text report came out at 58 KB. The content is carried across as it is rather than turned into an image, and pictures are not recompressed, so the file never balloons the way a print to image would.
Fit or fill: which suits a scanned page?
Fit, in most cases. Scans are rarely cropped exactly to the paper, so filling the sheet trims whatever overhangs, which can take a line of text or the page number with it. Fit keeps every part of the scan and only adds a thin white edge. Choose fill when the page is artwork that should run to the edge of the sheet.
Can I set a custom size such as 6 by 9 inches?
Yes. Pick Custom size and type the width and height in millimetres, anywhere from 25 to 5000. Six by nine inches is about 152 by 229 mm. Orientation still applies, so leave it on Match each page if the file mixes portrait and landscape pages, or force one way for a print run.
