What is A6 flyer size? A6 in mm, inches and pixels

An A6 flyer is 105 by 148 millimetres, or 10.5 by 14.8 centimetres, about 4.13 by 5.83 inches. It is a quarter of an A4 sheet. For print at 300 DPI the artwork is 1240 by 1748 pixels, growing to 1311 by 1819 pixels with a 3 millimetre bleed on each side.

A6 is postcard territory: small enough to hand out at a door or tuck into a shopping bag, and large enough for one offer and one way to act on it. Because it is so small, every millimetre of margin matters more than on any other flyer size.

A quarter of A4, a sixteenth of A1

In the ISO 216 series each size halves the one above, so A6 is a quarter of A4 and four A6 cards cut from one A4 sheet with no waste. That is the arithmetic that keeps A6 cheap: a print shop can run eight up on A3 or more on a larger press sheet. The 105 by 148 millimetre figure is the one to give a printer; the inch figure is a rounded conversion. A6 is also the size most people mean by an international postcard, which is why many print shops sell the two from the same stock.

How much fits on an A6 card

Treat the front as a poster at arm's length: a headline, one image and one call to action. The back can carry a map, opening hours, a short list or a booking code. At 300 DPI the trim is 1240 by 1748 pixels, so a photo needs at least that many pixels across the area it covers to print sharp. A margin of 4 to 5 millimetres inside the trim keeps text clear of the cut; on a card this small that is close to ten percent of the width, so plan the grid for it rather than squeezing it in at the end.

Posting an A6 card

An A6 card sits inside the size limits most postal services set for postcards and small letters. Australia Post accepts a small letter or postcard up to 130 by 240 millimetres and 5 millimetres thick, and the US Postal Service treats a card between 5 by 3.5 and 6 by 4.25 inches as a standard postcard. A6 at 4.13 by 5.83 inches therefore qualifies in the United States as long as the stock is between 0.007 and 0.016 inches thick. For a mailed card, leave the right half of the back free for the address and stamp.

Common mistakes with A6

The most common is copying an A4 or A5 layout onto A6 and shrinking everything, which leaves type too small to read. The second is a QR code smaller than about 2 centimetres, which older phones struggle to scan. The third is thin paper: below about 250 gsm an A6 card curls and feels like a receipt. The fourth is designing at 620 by 874 pixels, A6 at 150 DPI, which is fine for a phone screen but prints soft, especially on small type and fine lines.

Making an A6 flyer from the A4 canvas

The flyer editor does not have an A6 canvas. Its print sizes are A4 portrait and A4 landscape, and the rest are social sizes. A6 shares A4's proportions, so a design made on A4 portrait reduces to A6 without cropping, but only if it was written for a small card: one headline, one image, very short text, all set large. The A4 export is 2480 by 3508 pixels, roughly 600 DPI at A6, and the flyer size resizer outputs exact A6 pixels from it. Add bleed with the bleed and trim calculator before sending it to a printer. The blank 1240 by 1748 PNG linked above is A6 at 300 DPI for anyone starting in another editor.

Questions people ask

Is A6 the same as a postcard?

Close but not always. A6 at 105 by 148 millimetres is the size most people call an international postcard, and many print shops sell A6 postcards. The common US postcard is 4 by 6 inches, about 102 by 152 millimetres, which is a little narrower and taller, so artwork needs a small adjustment between the two.

How many A6 flyers come from one A4 sheet?

Four, with no waste, because A6 is a quarter of A4. If the design needs bleed, the cards cannot share cut lines and four will not fit on an A4 sheet, so print shops run A6 with bleed on SRA3 or larger press sheets and then guillotine them.

What thickness should an A6 card be?

Most A6 cards are printed on 300 to 400 gsm card, which feels sturdy in the hand and survives a pocket or a letterbox. For a card that will be mailed in the United States, check that the stock sits between 0.007 and 0.016 inches thick to qualify for the postcard rate.

Can an A6 flyer be double sided?

Yes, and most are. The front usually carries the offer and image, while the back holds details such as hours, a map or terms. Keep the same 4 to 5 millimetre safe margin on both sides, and remember the back is often the side people keep on a fridge.

What envelope fits an A6 card?

A C6 envelope, 114 by 162 millimetres, takes an A6 card with a few millimetres to spare. The C series is defined so that C6 holds A6 flat, C5 holds A5 and C4 holds A4, which makes envelope choice simple for any A size.
