App Store screenshot sizes: iPhone, iPad and Google Play
Apple requires at least one iPhone screenshot at a Dynamic Island size, such as 1179 by 2556 or 1206 by 2622 pixels, and one at iPad 13 inch, 2064 by 2752 or 2048 by 2732, if the app runs on iPad. Google Play asks for screenshots between 320 and 3840 pixels, with 1080 by 1920 portrait as the minimum for promotion.
Store screenshots are the first thing people see of an app before they install it, and both stores reject uploads at the wrong size. The sizes follow the devices, so they change as new phones come out, and the checklist is worth rechecking before every release.

Apple's required sizes
Apple's screenshot specifications ask for at least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island at the medium display size, 1179 by 2556 or 1206 by 2622 pixels in portrait, and at least one for the iPad 13 inch display, 2064 by 2752 or 2048 by 2732, if the app supports iPad. Larger iPhone sizes such as 1290 by 2796 and 1320 by 2868 are accepted and scaled when absent. Each device size takes up to 10 screenshots in .jpeg, .jpg or .png, and images cannot include alpha channels or transparency. When the interface is the same across sizes, the largest set can be uploaded and App Store Connect scales it down.
Google Play's rules
Google Play's preview asset guide says screenshots must be between 320 and 3840 pixels on each side, with the long side no more than twice the short side. To be eligible for promotion an app needs at least four screenshots of at least 1080 pixels: 1920 by 1080 or more in 16:9 landscape, or 1080 by 1920 or more in 9:16 portrait. Each device type, phones, tablets and others, takes up to 8 screenshots. A feature graphic of 1024 by 500 pixels is required to publish the listing.
Designing screenshots that sell
Most store screenshots are not raw captures but framed images: a short headline at the top, a real screen from the app below, sometimes inside a device frame. The first two or three are seen in search results without tapping, so they should show the main task the app does, not the login screen. Keep headlines to a few words, use the same style across every image, and update them when the app's interface changes so they never show an old design. Apple's specifications say every screenshot must adhere to the App Store Review Guidelines.
Common mistakes
The first is uploading at a size from an older phone that the store no longer accepts. The second is PNG files with transparency, which Apple rejects. The third is screenshots that show placeholder data, empty states or test accounts. The fourth is landscape and portrait mixed in one set, which looks untidy in the store. The fifth is forgetting the iPad set for an app that runs on iPad, which blocks submission.
Screenshots for apps made in Sites
Sites can generate a phone app as an Expo project and run Android or iPhone test and store builds, 5 credits each on paid plans; iPhone builds need the owner's Apple key. OneCraft does not submit apps to the stores: the owner submits from their own App Store and Google Play accounts and prepares the screenshots there. There is no screenshot canvas in the product, so capture screens from the test build, then resize them to the exact store sizes with the image resizer. The blank PNG above is 1290 by 2796 pixels, an accepted large iPhone size, for framing screenshots in another tool.
Questions people ask
How many screenshots do I need for the App Store?
At least one per required device size, and up to 10. Most apps upload five to eight iPhone screenshots so the first few tell the story in search results. If the app runs on iPad, an iPad set is required as well, with at least one 13 inch screenshot.
Can I use the same screenshots for iPhone and Android?
Often, with resizing. Apple's iPhone sizes are much taller than 9:16, while Google Play allows a long side up to twice the short side, so a 1179 by 2556 image is not accepted as is on Google Play. Resize or recompose each set to the store's own limits.
Do App Store screenshots have to be real screens?
They should show the app's actual interface. Apple's review guidelines expect screenshots to reflect the app in use, and framed images with captions are fine as long as the screens inside are real. Misleading screenshots are a common reason for review problems.
What is an app preview video?
A short video shown before or among the screenshots on a store listing. Google Play shows the preview video before the screenshots and may autoplay it muted for up to 30 seconds. Apple supports app previews per device size too. They are optional, and screenshots are still required.
Do I need new screenshots for each release?
Only when the interface changes visibly or a new device size becomes required. Stores keep the previous screenshots for each update, but outdated screens that no longer match the app confuse users and can draw review comments, so refresh them after a redesign.
