Reorder PDF pages
Every page of the PDF appears as a thumbnail, and you drag them into the order you want, or type the order for a long file. Saving rewrites only the page order, so form fields and links from one page to another keep working.

How it works
- 1
Open the PDF
Choose the file or drop it on the box. Every page is drawn as a thumbnail with its original page number.
- 2
Drag pages into place
Drag a page by its grip to a new spot. With the grip focused, the arrow keys move it one place and Home or End sends it to the start or the end. Moved pages are tinted and say which page they were.
- 3
Or type the order
For a long file, open Type the order instead, enter a list such as 3, 1, 2, 5-7 and press Use this order. Pages you leave out follow in their current order.
- 4
Save
The save button lists the start of the new order. Press it to download the reordered copy; Reverse the order and Back to the original order are there if you change your mind.
How the reordering works
A PDF lists its pages in a page tree, a small index that says which page comes first, second and so on. Rather than copying pages into a new document, this tool rewrites that index in the order you set and leaves every page object exactly as it was. Before it does, each page is given its own copy of any size, crop or resources it inherited from the tree, so a page that took its size from a parent node keeps it. Because the pages themselves are untouched, nothing is redrawn, compressed or converted, and the file stays the same quality and close to the same size.
What is kept and what is dropped
Form fields stay fillable, because the form still points at the same pages. A link on page 1 that jumps to the terms on page 5 still jumps to that page, wherever it now sits. Bookmarks are dropped: an outline lists chapters in reading order, often nested, and after a reorder it would jump around the file in a way that looks broken. Page labels go for the same reason. If the file had bookmarks, the message after saving says they were dropped, so it never comes as a surprise later.
Common reasons to reorder
A scanner that fed a stack upside down produces a file in reverse, which Reverse the order fixes in one click. A contract assembled from several exports often has its schedule before the signature page, or an appendix in the middle. A report merged from chapters arrives in the order the files were picked rather than the order they belong. In each case the content is right and only the sequence is wrong, which is exactly the job this tool does. The file is read and rewritten in your browser; nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored, ever.
Getting a contract ready to sign
Put the pages in their final order before sending a document for signature, because signers read and initial in sequence and fields are placed per page. OneCraft e-signatures take a PDF of up to 25 MB and reject pages that carry a rotation flag, naming the page, so a page that is still turned should be fixed with rotate PDF first.
Limits worth knowing
Encrypted files are refused with a message, since pdf-lib cannot write them. A signed file can be reordered, but its signature will no longer validate. Thumbnails are drawn one by one, so a file of several hundred pages takes a moment to lay out, and the typed order is quicker than dragging there.
Limits
- Form fields and links that point across pages are kept, but bookmarks are dropped, because a bookmark list built for the old order no longer matches the new one.
- Custom page labels, such as roman numerals for a preface, are removed for the same reason.
- An encrypted PDF cannot be rewritten here, and a digital signature on the file stops validating once the order changes.
What it does not do
- It does not delete, rotate or add pages. Remove PDF pages, rotate PDF and merge PDF do those.
- It does not renumber page numbers printed on the pages themselves.
- It does not upload the file.
Questions people ask
Can I move several PDF pages at once?
Not by dragging; each drag moves one page. For a block of pages, type the whole new order in Type the order instead, using ranges such as 8-12, 1-7, 13-20, and press Use this order. Ranges can also run backwards, so 20-1 reverses a twenty page file, which is quicker than any amount of dragging.
Why did my bookmarks disappear after reordering?
Because the tool removes them on purpose. A bookmark outline is written for one reading order, often with chapters nested inside parts, and after the pages move it would send readers around the file out of sequence. The pages, links and form fields are all kept. Add fresh bookmarks in a PDF editor if the reordered file needs them.
Does reordering reduce the quality of scanned pages?
No. The pages are not copied, redrawn or compressed; only the index that lists their order is rewritten. A scanned page keeps the exact image it had, at the same resolution, and the file size stays almost the same. That is different from tools that print a document to a new PDF, which can soften scans.
Can I reorder pages in a fillable PDF form without breaking it?
Yes. The fields stay attached to their pages, so a name box on what was page 2 is still on that page wherever it now sits, and any answers already typed are kept. Check the result in your reader, because a form with scripts that refer to page numbers may behave differently once those numbers change.
What happens to pages I leave out of a typed order?
They are kept and placed after the pages you listed, in their current order. Typing 5, 6 on a ten page file puts pages 5 and 6 first, followed by 1 to 4 and 7 to 10. Nothing is deleted. To drop pages instead of moving them, use the remove PDF pages tool.
