Google Business Profile photo size: 720 x 720

Google Business Profile Help recommends photos at 720 by 720 pixels, with a minimum of 250 by 250. Photos must be JPG or PNG and between 10 KB and 5 MB, in focus, well lit and without heavy filters. A logo and a cover photo can be set too, though Google may not always show the cover first.

Photos on a Google Business Profile are seen in Maps and search before anyone visits a website. Google's own requirements are short, and the quality notes matter as much as the pixel size.

What Google asks for

Google's help page sets a short list: JPG or PNG, between 10 KB and 5 MB, recommended at 720 by 720 pixels and no smaller than 250 by 250. It also asks for photos that are in focus and well lit, without significant alterations or excessive filters. That last rule is the one businesses break most often, by uploading designed graphics with text instead of photos of the real place, products or team.

Logo, cover and the rest

A profile can carry a logo, which helps customers recognise the business on Google, and a cover photo meant to represent it at the top of the profile. Google notes it may not always show the cover photo first and that a low quality cover may be replaced by a photo a customer uploaded. A square logo and a bright, sharp photo of the shopfront or the work give Google good choices to show.

Which photos to add

Customers look for the outside of the building, so they recognise it on arrival, the inside, the products or menu, and the people. A spread of recent photos taken in daylight, at 720 pixels or more on the short side, covers most needs. A square photo is shown without awkward crops in most views; a wide photo may be trimmed in thumbnail grids, so keep the subject centred.

Common mistakes

Uploading flyers and promotional graphics as photos, which can break the quality guidance. Using tiny images below 250 pixels. Uploading HEIC files from a phone that are not JPG or PNG. Exceeding 5 MB with an uncompressed camera file. And leaving the profile with only customer photos, which may not show the business at its best.

Making profile photos

Profile photos should be real photographs, and the flyer editor makes designs, so it is not the tool for most of them. Its Instagram Post canvas at 1080 by 1080 is a square larger than Google's 720 by 720 recommendation and can carry a logo on a plain background for the logo slot. The image resizer and image compressor bring camera photos to 720 by 720 and under 5 MB, and the blank 720 by 720 PNG on this page is a ready square.

Questions people ask

What is the best size for a Google Business Profile logo?

Google's help page does not give separate logo dimensions, so the general photo rules apply: JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB, at least 250 by 250 and ideally 720 by 720. A square logo with a margin around the mark looks right in the circle and square views Google uses.

Why are my photos not showing on my profile?

Google's help page on business photos says photos and videos only show on a Business Profile once the business is verified. If the business is verified and a photo is still missing, check that it meets the format, size and quality rules, and the content policy for profile imagery.

Why did Google replace my cover photo?

Google's help page says it may not always show the chosen cover first and that a low quality cover may be replaced by a customer's photo. Uploading a sharp, well lit cover at 720 pixels or more makes it more likely to stay.

Are photos with text allowed?

Google asks for photos that are in focus, well lit and without significant alterations or excessive filters. Promotional graphics full of text do not fit that guidance well. Offers and events are better shared as posts on the profile, which have their own fields.

How do I shrink a phone photo for Google?

Use an image resizer to bring the long side down to a few thousand pixels or less, and an image compressor to keep the file under 5 MB. Save as JPG, since some phones shoot HEIC, which is not in Google's list of JPG or PNG.
