Sticker sizes: common sticker and label dimensions
Common custom sticker sizes are 2, 3, 4 and 5 inches square, and 1 to 4 inch circles, about 25 to 127 millimetres. A 3 inch sticker is the everyday choice for laptops, bottles and packaging. At 300 DPI a 3 by 3 inch sticker is 900 by 900 pixels, and a 2 inch sticker is 600 by 600.
Stickers are sold by their longest side, which is why a size list looks so simple. The detail that matters is how the shape inside that box is cut, and how much white border the cutter leaves around it.

How sticker sizes are measured
Printers size a sticker by the box that holds it. StickerMule lists die cut stickers at 2, 3, 4 and 5 inches, square stickers at the same four sizes and circle stickers from 1 to 4 inches, and says the exact size is set from the artwork at proofing: a design ordered at 3 by 3 inches might come back as 3 by 2.8 because its shape is not square. MOO offers stickers in several sizes and shapes too. A long logo ordered at 3 inches will be 3 inches wide and much shorter, so think of the size as the longest side.
Die cut, kiss cut and sheets
A die cut sticker is cut through the vinyl and the backing to the shape of the design, usually with a thin border, so each sticker is separate. A kiss cut leaves the backing whole and cuts only the vinyl, which lets several stickers sit on one sheet or lets a small shape have a larger, easier to hold backing. Sticker sheets put many small stickers on one card. Each has its own template, but all of them need the important parts of the design to sit well inside the cut line.
Resolution and file type
At 300 DPI a 3 inch sticker needs 900 pixels across, which is easy for a logo but small for a detailed illustration that people will look at from 30 centimetres. Vector files, SVG, PDF or EPS, scale to any sticker size with clean edges and let the printer generate the cut line from the outline. For photos and painted artwork, supply a PNG with a transparent background at 300 DPI or more, and the printer will trace the cut path around the shape.
Common mistakes
The first is a thin white outline right on the edge, which the cutter may clip or leave uneven. The second is tiny text, below about 6 points on a 2 inch sticker, which becomes unreadable. The third is a design with holes in it, such as letters that float apart, which a die cut cannot follow; add a solid background shape behind them. The fourth is a dark design on a clear sticker, which disappears on a dark surface.
Stickers and the flyer editor
The flyer editor has no sticker canvas or cut line, and its Add items panel has Badge and Chip elements rather than stickers. A sticker is best made at its exact pixel size in a tool that exports a transparent PNG or a vector, starting from the blank PNG above, 900 by 900 pixels, a 3 inch sticker at 300 DPI. The DPI calculator converts other sizes, and an Instagram Post from the generator, at 1080 by 1080 pixels, is a natural way to announce a new sticker or show it on a product.
Questions people ask
What is the most popular sticker size?
Three inches is a common choice for laptops, notebooks and water bottles, large enough for a logo to read and small enough to fit on curved surfaces. Two inch stickers are popular as packaging seals and giveaways because they are cheaper per sticker and fit inside small orders.
What is the difference between a sticker and a label?
The terms overlap. A label usually carries information, such as an ingredient list or an address, and comes on rolls or sheets for printing or applying by hand. A sticker is usually decorative or promotional, often die cut to a shape on thicker, weatherproof vinyl.
Are vinyl stickers waterproof?
Many vinyl stickers are printed with a protective laminate that makes them resistant to rain and sunlight, and StickerMule says its laminated stickers are dishwasher safe. Paper stickers are not waterproof and suit indoor uses such as envelopes and packaging only.
What file do I send for a die cut sticker?
A vector file such as SVG, PDF or EPS is best, because the printer can follow its outline exactly. A high resolution PNG with a transparent background also works; the printer traces a cut line around the visible shape and shows it on a proof before printing.
How small can text be on a sticker?
Keep text at about 6 points or more on small stickers and use bold, simple fonts. Fine serifs and thin lines blur when printed small on vinyl. Read a printed proof at arm's length; if any word needs squinting, make it bigger or remove it.
