A Base44 alternative: sites and apps with their own database

Base44 is an AI app builder with an integrated backend and database, authentication, built in hosting and payments powered by Wix, from $16 a month billed annually. OneCraft Sites has an AI agent write websites and Expo phone apps whose database is a Postgres schema of their own or your own Supabase project, with access rules tested on every table.

The short verdict

Base44 is the better pick for quickly building internal tools, dashboards and general apps with AI, editing the code in the app, syncing it both ways with GitHub and running a security scan before sharing. OneCraft suits a small business that wants a public website or a phone app: the agent builds business features from 65 guides, tests access rules on every new table, and takes payments through Stripe on the owner's own account.

Where Base44 is better

Where OneCraft is different

Two answers to where the data lives

Base44 includes an integrated backend and database on every plan, and you work with it through Base44. OneCraft gives each site a Postgres schema of its own in its pool project with a login role that can reach no other site, or a project on your own Supabase account. Migrations and a schema file are written into the site's repository, so the database design travels with the code when you download it.

What testing access rules means

An access rule that looks right can still let the wrong person read a row. OneCraft's agent calls check_access on every new table before a generation step can finish: as an anonymous visitor, as a signed in person and, where there is one, as an admin. A bookings table must refuse an anonymous read and show a signed in person only their own rows. Base44 recommends rules and offers a security scan; check what each covers for your data.

Price at a glance

Base44 starts at $16 a month billed annually with 100 message credits. OneCraft Starter is $8 a month with 500 credits, Pro is $25 and Pro+ is $125, and every plan includes a hosted site database. Payments add a platform fee of 2%, 1% or 0.5% by plan on top of Stripe's fees. Both meter AI use, so a project with many rounds of changes costs more than its plan price on either.

Who should stay with Base44

Stay with Base44 if you build internal tools or general apps, want to edit code yourself and sync with GitHub, or are happy with Wix powered payments. Move if your project is a public business website or phone app, you want Stripe on your own account, and you want the database on your own Supabase account or in a schema of its own.

Questions people ask

Can I connect my own Supabase project?

Yes. Connect your Supabase account and the agent creates the site's project on it, so you own and pay for the database directly. It is optional, since every plan includes a hosted site database in OneCraft's pool.

Does OneCraft use Wix Payments?

No. OneCraft payments run through Stripe only: Stripe Checkout as a direct charge on the Stripe account you connect in Settings, Payments. There is no PayPal and no cash on delivery flow. The free plan cannot take payments; paid plans add a platform fee of 2%, 1% or 0.5%.

Can I edit the code by hand in OneCraft?

Not in the builder. The files are read only and every change goes through the AI chat, which builds and checks it. You can download the project as a zip and work on it elsewhere, but those edits do not come back into OneCraft.

Can OneCraft build an internal dashboard?

It can build an admin area inside a site, shown only to the site's admins, with tables to manage, CSV import and export and an analytics dashboard over the site's own data. A standalone internal tool that pulls from many business systems is a better fit for a general app builder.

What happens if a change breaks the build?

A chat change whose build fails is rolled back to where the turn started, and Let AI fix it sends the error back to the agent. Every change is a commit, the newest 50 are listed in Versions, and you can preview or restore any of them, which creates a new commit and a build.
