Scholarship Certificate, Henrietta Vale Science Scholarship 2027
Scholarship certificate template for a school award
A scholarship certificate names the award, the recipient and why they were chosen, and states its value and the year it covers. This example from a secondary college awards a $2,000 science scholarship for 2027 to a Year 10 student for her river microplastics project and her help in the science club.

Certificate and award letter, side by side
Scholarships carry money and conditions, and those belong in an award letter rather than on the certificate. Government student support sites and tax authorities both treat scholarships as financial arrangements with rules, so the family will want terms in writing: how the $2,000 is paid, whether it covers fees, books or equipment, and whether it depends on enrolment in a given subject. The certificate's job is different. It is the public, lasting record of the honour, read aloud at speech night and kept in a portfolio. Keeping the two documents separate lets each be clear.
Writing the reason fairly
Selection committees usually work from criteria such as academic merit, a project, service or need. The certificate's reason sentence should reflect the criteria that decided the award, in terms the student and their family recognise. Avoid comparing the student with others, and never mention financial circumstances on a certificate even when need was a criterion. If a donor has asked for specific wording, agree it with them before printing.
How to adapt this document
Change the badge and the scholarship name and year, then the recipient and the reason sentence. Set the cards to the value, the period and either the year level or the course. Change the signatory to the person who awards it, and add the donor if they wish. Keep conditions out of the certificate and put them in the award letter. Present it publicly if the student is comfortable, and send a PDF copy for their records.
What makes this document work
The scholarship has a name and a year
The Henrietta Vale Science Scholarship for 2027 is named in the presentation line. Named, dated scholarships can be listed on applications and checked with the school, which a vague academic award cannot.
Value and period are explicit
$2,000 for the year 2027, for Year 11, sits on cards. The family knows what the award is worth and when it applies, and the school's finance team has the same figures to work from.
The reason has two parts
A research project with a named subject, microplastics in the Westbrook River, and help given to younger students in the science club. Naming both the work and the contribution shows the selection criteria were applied, not just a top mark.
Questions people ask
What should a scholarship certificate include?
The name of the scholarship, the recipient, the reason for the award, its value and what it can be used for, the period it covers, and the signature of the person who awards it. If the scholarship is named after a donor, include the name exactly as the donor agreed. Keep conditions, such as continued enrolment, in a separate letter.
Should a scholarship certificate show the dollar amount?
Usually yes, because the value is part of the honour and the family needs it for planning. Some donors prefer the amount kept private; in that case leave it off the certificate and state it in the award letter. Be consistent across recipients of the same scholarship.
Is a scholarship taxable?
It depends on the country, the type of scholarship and how it is used. In some systems amounts used for tuition and required materials are not taxed while amounts for living costs may be. The certificate does not settle that question; recipients should check the rules where they live and keep the award letter.
Who signs a scholarship certificate?
The head of the school or institution, often with the donor or the chair of the selection committee as a second signatory. For a school scholarship, the principal's signature is expected. Print the name under the signature line and present the certificate publicly, such as at a speech night.
What is the difference between a scholarship certificate and an award letter?
The certificate is the formal recognition the student keeps or frames. The award letter sets out the terms: how the money is paid, what it may be spent on, conditions for keeping it and who to contact. Send both, and keep the certificate free of conditions so it reads as an honour.

Certificate of participation template for a two day workshop
A certificate of participation confirms that a person took part in an event, course or program, with the dates and the time they attended. This example from a community foundation records 12 of 12 hours at a two day grant writing workshop and says plainly that it records attendance, not assessment.
Student award certificate for a primary school merit award
A student award certificate tells a child, and their family, exactly what they did well, on a page they can take home. This example from a primary school gives a merit award to a Year 3 student who read 20 books in a term and wrote a review of each one for the class library.
Certificate of appreciation template for a festival volunteer
A certificate of appreciation thanks a person for a contribution they chose to make, and works best when it names what they actually did. This example from a food and wine festival thanks one of 60 volunteers for running the information tent and reuniting four lost children with their families.
