Best and Fairest Award, Riverbend Netball Club 2026

Sports award certificate template for a best and fairest

A sports award certificate names the award, the competition and season it covers and the player who won it, with the figures that decided it. This example from a netball club presents the under 15 best and fairest to a player who polled 31 umpire votes and played all 16 rounds.

Writing the award line

A sports certificate is read aloud at presentation night, so the wording should sound right spoken. Keep the presentation line to the division and season, then the player's name, then one sentence on why. Use the sport's own words: intercepts, rebounds, tackles, clean sheets. Avoid comparisons with team mates by name. For a best and fairest, include a fairness detail, such as no cautions, because the award is meant to honour how a player plays as well as how well.

Awards in junior sport

Sport bodies and integrity programs stress that junior sport should be safe, inclusive and fun, and that recognition should support those aims. A small number of merit awards, presented alongside recognition for every player, keeps the focus on taking part. Write down the criteria for each award before the season starts and share them with coaches, so votes are cast against the same standard. If a vote tally is close, the club's tie rule should be in writing before anyone counts.

How to adapt this document

Change the badge, the award name, the division and season, and the player. Replace the figures with what decided your award: votes, goals, games or a coaches' panel. Rewrite the sentence in your sport's language and keep one fairness or teamwork detail. Change the signatories to the people your club uses, and set the footer to your presentation date. Use one design for every award on the night so the certificates read as a set.

What makes this document work

The competition is precise

Under 15 Division 1, 2026 season, is set above the name. A best and fairest only means something inside its competition, and the division and season stop it being confused with a club wide or senior award.

The deciding figure is shown

31 umpire votes and 16 of 16 games played are on cards. Best and fairest awards are usually decided by votes from umpires or coaches, and showing the count makes the result transparent to parents and players.

Fairness is in the sentence

The wording says she led the team in intercepts while never once being cautioned. The fairest half of best and fairest is easy to forget; naming it reflects what the award is meant to reward.

Questions people ask

How is a best and fairest award decided?

Most clubs and leagues use votes cast after each game, often by umpires, sometimes by coaches or captains, on a three, two, one basis. Votes are tallied at the end of the season and the player with the most wins. The club's rules should say who votes and how ties are broken, and the certificate can show the total.

Who should sign a sports award certificate?

The coach, who knows the player's season, and the club president, who speaks for the club. Some leagues have the league president sign league awards instead. Two signatures look balanced side by side and make the award feel official to the player and family.

What awards does a junior sports club usually give?

Common ones are best and fairest, coaches' award, most improved, best team player and a club spirit or volunteer award. Junior programs often give participation certificates to every player as well, so nobody leaves the season without recognition. Keep each award's criteria written down and consistent from year to year.

Should junior players all receive a certificate?

Many clubs give every junior a participation certificate and present a small number of awards on top. Sport integrity and child safe guidance encourages inclusive recognition in junior sport, where enjoyment and staying in the game matter more than ranking. Present the awards with care so younger players do not feel left out.

When should sports award certificates be presented?

At an end of season presentation night or final training, while the season is fresh and families can attend. Print certificates after votes are counted and checked. If a player cannot attend, post or email the certificate with a short note from the coach.
