What is table tent size? Folded and flat dimensions

A table tent is a folded card that stands on a table, and the size people quote is one panel: 5 by 7 inches, 4 by 6 inches or A6 are common. The printed sheet is larger because it holds two or three panels and sometimes a base. At 300 DPI a 4 by 6 inch panel is 1200 by 1800 pixels.

Table tents sell desserts, drinks, specials and Wi-Fi codes from the middle of a table. They are read sitting down, from about half a metre, and from both sides, which changes how much text fits and which way each panel faces.

How a table tent is built

A two panel tent is a single sheet scored across the middle and folded into an upside down V, with one face on each side. A three panel tent adds a base panel that tucks underneath, which makes a triangle and stands more firmly on a busy table. The size printers quote is usually the face. VistaPrint, for example, sells its table tents only at 5 by 7 inches in a vertical orientation, so its flat sheet is about twice that height. Ask for the printer's template, which shows the fold lines and the base flap exactly.

Designing two faces

Both faces are seen, often by different people at the same table, so each should work alone: a headline, an image and a price. Remember that one face is printed upside down on the flat sheet relative to the other, so the design reads correctly once folded; templates mark this, and getting it wrong is the classic table tent error. Keep text at least 5 millimetres from each fold, and avoid putting the price or a QR code where the crease runs.

What fits on a tent

Seated diners glance at a tent while they wait, so it works best with one offer per face. A dessert photo with its price, a happy hour time, a Wi-Fi password or a QR code to an online menu is plenty. Type of 14 points or more for the key line reads easily at table distance. A 4 by 6 inch face holds a headline, an image and two short lines; a 5 by 7 face allows a short list, such as three specials.

Common mistakes

The first is the upside down second face. The second is flimsy paper; below about 300 gsm a tent sags and collapses on a wiped table. The third is a dark full bleed background on uncoated stock, which shows every coffee ring. The fourth is too many offers, which turns a quick glance into reading. The fifth is a tent too tall for the table, blocking the view between diners.

Table tents and the flyer editor

The flyer editor does not have a table tent canvas or fold layout. Its print sizes are A4 portrait and landscape, so the practical route is to make each face as an A4 portrait page in one multi page flyer and scale it to the panel size. The A4 proportion does not match a 4 by 6 or 5 by 7 face exactly, so the flyer size resizer crops or pads it to the right pixels, and the trifold panel calculator helps with fold positions on a three panel sheet. The blank PNG above is 1200 by 1800 pixels, one 4 by 6 inch face at 300 DPI.

Questions people ask

What paper should a table tent be printed on?

Card of at least 300 gsm, ideally 350 gsm or heavier, with a coating that resists spills. Many venues choose a gloss or UV coated front so tents can be wiped down. Thin paper bends and falls over, especially with air conditioning or outdoor breezes.

How long does a table tent last?

A coated card tent usually survives several weeks of daily table service before corners soften and spills show. For specials that change weekly, print short runs. For permanent information such as Wi-Fi details, an acrylic stand holding a printed insert lasts much longer.

Can a table tent have three sides?

Yes. A triangular tent with three faces and a tuck in base shows a message to every side of a round table. It needs a printer's template, because the three faces and base flap must be exactly the right widths for the triangle to close neatly.

Where should a QR code go on a table tent?

In the middle of a face, at least 2 centimetres square, with a short instruction such as scan for the menu above or below it. Keep it away from the fold and the base, test it on a printed sample, and make sure it points to a page that loads quickly on mobile data.

Are acrylic stands better than paper table tents?

Acrylic stands hold a printed insert that can be swapped when prices change, and they survive cleaning for years. Paper tents are cheaper to start with, can be any shape and suit short campaigns. Many venues use acrylic for permanent items and paper tents for promotions.
