An Appy Pie alternative: apps and websites written as code

Appy Pie is a no code app maker priced per app, where the cheaper plans publish to Android only and iPhone needs the Platinum plan. OneCraft writes a whole Expo app for both platforms from a brief, with its own database, and the same account can write the business website too.

The short verdict

Appy Pie is the better pick for someone who wants a template driven app quickly, help with the first store submission and an ad free Android app from a low per app price. OneCraft suits an owner who wants both iPhone and Android from one written app, data and sign in that belong to the business, and code that can leave the builder.

Where Appy Pie is better

Where OneCraft is different

Per app pricing against per account pricing

Appy Pie prices each app separately, and the Apple App Store is only on Platinum, AU$120 a month billed monthly or AU$60 billed yearly for each app. OneCraft prices the account: Starter at $8 a month allows 3 sites, which can be websites or apps, Pro at $25 allows 10. Builds and generation come out of the monthly credits, so the cost follows how much you build rather than how many apps you keep.

Templates or a written brief

A template app gets you a familiar layout fast, and many businesses need nothing more. A written brief gets you screens built around how your business actually works, for example a cafe app with order ahead, pickup times and a coffee stamp card stored in its own database. The trade off is that you review an agent's work rather than fill in a template.

Getting into the stores

On either route you pay Apple 99 USD a year and Google Play 25 USD once for the developer accounts. With OneCraft you submit with eas submit, and a new personal Google Play account must run a closed test with 12 people for 14 days before release.

Who should stay with Appy Pie

Stay with Appy Pie if you want an Android app quickly from a template, value help with the first store submission, or need its enterprise compliance list. Move if you need iPhone and Android without paying for a top tier, want your app written around your own business rather than a template, and want code you can keep.

Questions people ask

Can I try OneCraft before paying?

Yes. The free plan gives 100 credits a month, about 3 AI projects, to generate and preview sites and apps in the browser. Publishing a website, connecting a domain, taking payments and running Expo builds need a paid plan. The 100 credits reset each month.

Will my OneCraft app show ads?

No ads are placed in the app. It is your own Expo project, built through Expo and submitted from your own store accounts, with your app name and icon set in app.json. OneCraft adds no screens of its own to the app, and the free plan cannot build it for the stores at all, so a published app always comes from a paid plan.

Can customers pay in the app?

Yes, through Stripe Checkout as a direct charge on your own connected Stripe account, on a paid plan. OneCraft keeps a platform fee of 2% on Starter, 1% on Pro or 0.5% on Pro+, and Stripe's own fees apply on top.

Can I convert my existing website into an app?

You can base a new app on a web address. The agent reads that site's content and uses its look as a design reference. If the website was made with OneCraft, the app also takes its colours, fonts and database directly.

Does OneCraft check the app before I see it?

Yes. The agent plans the screens, builds them in steps and exports the app until it is green. It then takes screenshots of every tab at 390 and 768 pixels wide, and of Home in dark mode, and a review pass sends fixes before the app is handed over to you.
