A Givebutter alternative for nonprofit fundraising sites

Givebutter is free with optional donor tips, or a flat 3% platform fee if tips are turned off, and Givebutter Plus adds workflows and texting from $29 a month. OneCraft writes the nonprofit's own fundraising website, with donations through its own Stripe account, for a monthly plan and a 0.5% to 2% platform fee.

The short verdict

Givebutter is the better pick for a nonprofit that wants donation forms, campaign pages, events, auctions, peer-to-peer fundraising, text-to-donate, a donor CRM and many payment methods in one platform at little or no cost. OneCraft suits a nonprofit that wants its own website written around its programmes and appeals, with gifts going to its own Stripe account and no tip request at checkout.

Where Givebutter is better

Where OneCraft is different

Tips, fees and plans

Givebutter is free when tips are on and charges 3% plus processing when they are off. OneCraft charges a plan from $8 a month, Stripe's card fees, and 2% on Starter, 1% on Pro or 0.5% on Pro+. On $10,000 of gifts a month with tips off, Givebutter's platform fee is $300; OneCraft Pro's is $100 plus the $25 plan, with card fees on both.

Appeals, events and auctions

From a brief, the agent writes a donate page with one-off and monthly gifts, an appeal page whose progress reads from the gifts table, ticket sales for a gala through Stripe Checkout, and a silent auction from the auctions guide. Each is code in the same site, with an admin area listing gifts, tickets and bids.

Keeping supporters in touch

Givebutter includes email blasts and, on Plus, texting. OneCraft's admin newsletter reaches confirmed subscribers, at most 500 per send and 5 sends an hour, and there is no SMS, so larger lists need a separate email service.

Moving supporters across

There is no Givebutter importer. A nonprofit can export its contacts, invite monthly donors to restart their gift on the new site, and keep Givebutter forms running until the switch is complete. Monthly gifts on OneCraft run as Stripe subscriptions, so donors change their card in the Stripe billing portal rather than through the nonprofit.

Who should stay with Givebutter

Stay with Givebutter if free tools funded by tips suit you, you need PayPal, Venmo or text-to-donate, or you rely on its CRM and peer-to-peer campaigns. Move if you want a full website written around your work with appeals and events inside it, donations paid to your own Stripe account, and no tip request shown to donors.

Questions people ask

Can supporters fundraise for us peer to peer?

Peer-to-peer pages are not among OneCraft's listed guides. The agent might build supporter pages from your brief, but a platform with peer-to-peer built in is the safer choice if that is central to your campaigns. Givebutter lists peer-to-peer fundraising among its features.

Can a progress bar show the appeal total?

Yes. The appeal page can read the total from the gifts table in the site's database, which a Stripe webhook updates when each payment is confirmed, so the bar reflects paid gifts only. Pending or failed payments do not move it.

Can donors use PayPal or Venmo?

No. OneCraft sites take payments through Stripe Checkout only, so donors pay by the cards and wallets Stripe Checkout offers. If PayPal or Venmo gifts matter, keep a Givebutter form alongside the site. Givebutter lists PayPal, Venmo and donor advised funds.

Can we try it before committing?

Yes. The free plan has 100 credits a month to generate and preview a site. Publishing and taking donations need a paid plan from $8 a month. The 100 credits reset each month and cover about 3 AI projects, so a nonprofit can see its full site in the preview first.

Who can see donor details?

Only admins listed in the site's site_admins table, through the admin area. Row level security on each table stops visitors and signed in supporters from reading other people's gifts, and the agent checks those rules before generation finishes. Admins are added through chat.
