A Lemon Squeezy alternative: selling on your own website

The short verdict
Lemon Squeezy is the better pick for a software or digital product seller who wants a merchant of record to carry sales tax and VAT worldwide, licence keys, 21 payment methods including PayPal, and no monthly fee. OneCraft suits a seller who wants the store on a website written for them, pays tax as the seller of record, and has enough volume that a plan and a small platform fee cost less than 5% plus 50 cents.

Where Lemon Squeezy is better
Tax off your plate
As merchant of record, Lemon Squeezy calculates, collects and pays sales tax and VAT for you. On OneCraft you are the seller on your own Stripe account.
Licence keys
Lemon Squeezy issues, deactivates and re-issues licence keys for software. OneCraft lists no licence key system.
More payment methods
Lemon Squeezy accepts up to 21 payment methods including PayPal. OneCraft takes Stripe Checkout only.
No monthly fee
Lemon Squeezy charges only per sale. OneCraft needs a paid plan before a site can take payments.
Where OneCraft is different
A smaller cut per sale
OneCraft keeps 2% on Starter, 1% on Pro and 0.5% on Pro+, plus Stripe's fees, against 5% plus 50 cents.
A whole website around the products
Product pages, a help centre, buyer accounts and downloads are one site written for your brand, at your own domain on a paid plan.
Data in your own database
Buyers, orders and subscriptions are rows in the site's own Supabase database, with row level security tested by the agent.
Merchant of record or your own Stripe
The biggest difference is who sells. Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record, so tax liability, calculation and payment are its job. On OneCraft each sale is a direct charge on your own connected Stripe account, so you are the seller and your tax obligations are your own. For a seller in one country with an accountant, that is normal; for one selling software worldwide, a merchant of record removes real work.
The fee at a few volumes
At $1,500 a month in sales of $30 products, Lemon Squeezy's fee is $75 plus $25 in per order charges, $100. OneCraft Pro is $25 a month plus 1%, $15, with Stripe's card fees on top. At $200 a month in sales, Lemon Squeezy's $13 is cheaper than any OneCraft paid plan.
What the agent writes
From a brief, the agent builds product pages, one-off purchases and a yearly subscription through Stripe, buyer accounts with email or Google sign in, a downloads page backed by the private bucket and a help centre. Subscribers manage their card in the Stripe billing portal.
Who should stay with Lemon Squeezy
Stay with Lemon Squeezy if you sell software that needs licence keys, sell into many tax regions and want a merchant of record, or want PayPal and other methods. Move if you sell digital products from a website you want to own, your tax setup is already in hand, and your volume makes 5% plus 50 cents the larger cost.
Questions people ask
Can OneCraft issue licence keys?
No licence key system is listed. The agent could write a table of keys tied to orders if you describe the rules, but activation checks inside your software would still be yours to build, so software sellers usually prefer a tool with keys built in.
Do I need to register for tax?
That depends on where you and your buyers are. On OneCraft you sell through your own Stripe account, so treat it like any shop you run and check your obligations with an accountant; Stripe documents its own tax tools separately.
Can buyers pay what they want?
Prices are read from the site's database, never from the browser, so a pay what you want flow needs rules for the allowed amounts. Ask the agent for it and test the checkout in the preview before publishing. Lemon Squeezy offers pay what you want pricing as a built-in option.
How big can a download be?
Files in the site's private bucket can be up to 25 MB each. Larger products need hosting elsewhere, with the link shown to buyers after a paid order. Public files such as product images can be up to 10 MB each, and the access rule on the private bucket checks the order before a file is served.
Can I send product update emails?
An admin can send a newsletter to confirmed subscribers, at most 500 per send and 5 sends an hour, from OneCraft's address with the site's name and an unsubscribe link. For a larger customer list, a dedicated email service is the better fit, since sends stop at 500 recipients.
