A Podia alternative: courses and downloads on your own site

Podia sells courses, downloads, coaching, community and email from $42 a month billed yearly, with a 5% fee on its Mover plan and email included up to 100 to 1,000 subscribers. OneCraft writes a course and downloads website around your teaching, with lessons and buyers in its own database, from $8 a month.

The short verdict

Podia is the better pick for a creator who wants courses with quizzes and certificates, coaching, community, events, email marketing and a website in one product, with PayPal and sales tax across 230 countries handled. OneCraft suits a creator who wants a course and downloads site written to their own structure, paid through their own Stripe account, for a lower monthly price.

Where Podia is better

Where OneCraft is different

Two pricing models

Podia's Mover plan is $42 a month billed yearly with a 5% fee on sales; Shaker at $84 drops the fee. OneCraft Pro is $25 a month with a 1% platform fee and a hosted database, which every plan includes. A creator selling $2,000 of courses a month pays $100 in Podia fees on Mover, against $20 on OneCraft Pro, plus card fees either way.

What a generated course site holds

From a brief like a six lesson pottery course, the agent writes lesson pages, a progress table per student, a one-off Stripe Checkout purchase that unlocks the lessons, downloads in the private bucket and a booking page for studio sessions. Students sign in with email or Google, and the agent checks that a student who has not paid cannot read a paid lesson.

Video lessons

Podia allows 500 videos on Mover and more on higher plans. OneCraft lists no video hosting, and the private bucket holds files up to 25 MB, so lesson videos would be hosted elsewhere and shown on the lesson page.

Who should stay with Podia

Stay with Podia if you want quizzes, certificates, email marketing to a large list and a community in one product, or need PayPal and sales tax handled. Move if you want a lower monthly cost and a course site written around how you actually teach, with payments to your own Stripe account.

Questions people ask

Can students track their progress?

Yes, when the agent builds progress into the course. Each completed lesson is a row tied to the signed in student, protected by row level security so students see only their own progress. The agent checks those rules as a visitor and as a signed in student before generation finishes.

Can I sell a course and a membership together?

Yes. Stripe Checkout handles one-off purchases, and subscriptions run from a plans table with the Stripe billing portal for members. Describe which purchase unlocks which lessons and the agent writes the rules. Prices are read from the database, never the browser.

Can I drip lessons over time?

Drip release is not listed among OneCraft's features, but the agent can write a rule that unlocks lessons by date or by purchase. Ask for it in the brief, then check it in the preview with a test student. Podia includes drip lessons in its courses.

Can I move my Podia students?

There is no Podia importer. You can export customer emails from Podia and invite students to sign up on the new site; purchases do not move automatically. Podia's own migration help works the other way, moving products into Podia, so plan the move with your list exported first and each student told how to sign up again.

Can I try it free?

The free plan has 100 credits a month to generate and preview a course site. Publishing and taking payments need a paid plan from $8 a month. The 100 monthly credits cover about 3 AI projects, enough to see a full course site in the preview before paying.
