Training Certificate, Manual Handling, Corbel Logistics

Training certificate template with course hours and an expiry date

A training certificate records that a person completed a named course on a date, how long it took and when it must be refreshed. This example from a logistics company covers a four hour manual handling course, sets a refresh date two years later and states that it is in house training, not a national qualification.

Training records in a safety audit

Health and safety regulators expect employers to provide training suited to the risks of the work and to keep it current. For manual handling, guidance stresses that training supports, but does not replace, safer systems of work such as mechanical aids and better layouts. A training certificate is the employee's copy of the record; the employer's copy is the training register. Both should show the same course, date, hours and refresh date. When those agree, an auditor can confirm in seconds that a worker was trained for the task they were doing.

In house training and accredited units

Accredited training is delivered by a registered provider against national units of competency and leads to a statement of attainment. In house training is designed and delivered by the employer for its own workplace. Both are legitimate, but they are not interchangeable, and regulators of vocational training take misuse of accredited language seriously. If your course maps to an accredited unit, partner with a registered provider and let them issue the statement; your certificate can then sit alongside it as the workplace record.

How to adapt this document

Change the badge, trainee and course title, and describe the assessment in one sentence. Set the hours from the course plan and the refresh date from your policy. Keep the in house note unless the course is accredited. Give every certificate a unique number and record it in your training register at the same time. For a group session, prepare one certificate, duplicate it for each trainee and change only the name and number.

What makes this document work

Expiry is printed, not remembered

Completed 14 October 2026 and refresh by 14 October 2028 sit side by side. A supervisor checking a training register can see at a glance whether the person is current, which is the question a safety audit asks.

Practical assessment is named

The sentence says the course included a practical assessment of team lifts, trolley use and pallet breakdown at a named site. That tells an auditor the training was hands on and specific to the work, not only a video watched at a desk.

It is honest about its status

The footer says in house training, not a nationally recognised qualification, next to the certificate number. That protects the company from a certificate being presented elsewhere as something it is not.

Questions people ask

What should a training certificate include?

The trainee's name, the course title, what it covered or how it was assessed, the date completed, the hours, the trainer, an expiry or refresh date where the training must be repeated, and a unique number. If the training is in house, say so; if it leads to an accredited unit, name the provider and the unit code.

How often should manual handling training be refreshed?

There is often no single legal interval; regulators expect training to be adequate for the risks and repeated when tasks, equipment or people change. Many employers refresh every two or three years, or sooner after an incident. Put your chosen interval on the certificate so the refresh date is never a guess.

Can an employer issue its own training certificates?

Yes. Employers can record their own training with an internal certificate. What they cannot do without accreditation is present it as a nationally recognised qualification. Saying in house training on the certificate, as this one does, keeps that line clear while still giving the employee a record they can keep.

Who should sign a training certificate?

The trainer who delivered and assessed the course, and ideally a manager responsible for safety or training who can confirm it meets the company's standard. Two signatures make the certificate more useful in an audit. Print both names under the lines so they can be read.

Should training certificates be kept on file?

Yes. Keep a copy in a training register or personnel file, with the date, hours and expiry, so you can show who was trained and when. Health and safety regulators may ask for training records after an incident. Give the employee the original or a PDF so they have their own record.
