A restraint clause is only worth having if the person bound by it can be shown to have read that clause, not the document it sits in. This envelope puts an initials box beside each of four separate restraints, a period, a radius, a named client list and a permanent obligation about pricing models, and puts an access code in front of the whole thing.

The document itself is written out in full on its own page:read the wording there. This page is only about signing it.

Who signs what

The signing journey

  1. Step 1

Eight fields, four of them beside the restraints

Each of the four restraints has its own initials box in the row beside it. The employee also gets a name field, a signature and a date on page 3.

  2. Step 2

The code is read down the phone

The employee carries an access code of at least four characters, never returned by the API. It went by phone with the final pay summary.

  3. Step 3

One drawing, four initials and a signature

Rowan drew once. The portal filled all four initials boxes and the page 3 signature from that single drawing, scrolling him restraint to restraint. The name field beside his signature arrived prefilled from the recipient record.

  4. Step 4

    The director countersigns

Ilse was invited when the employee's signature landed, and opened a copy already carrying four sets of initials. Her block printed FOR CORVID ANALYTICS PTY LTD over four lines.

  5. Step 5

    Certified, then emailed to both

The listener stamped, certified and emailed the agreement to both signers and the sender. The certificate records the employee as Email link + access code.

Every field, and who fills it

Eight fields, four of them sitting in the rows beside the restraints they mark. That layout is the argument this agreement is built to survive: each restraint is drafted, initialled and severable on its own, so reading one down leaves the other three standing and separately marked as read. Page three then takes a typed full name, a signature and a stamped date, and the director's block opposite carries Name, Title, Company and Date. Two of the name lines were never typed by anybody, arriving from the recipient records, and no value anywhere was set beforehand, because the preparation screen offers only a field label and a Required switch.

How to adapt this envelope

Where a restraint payment is made, a text field for the amount puts the consideration on the signed page rather than in a separate letter. Where the employee has taken advice, their lawyer becomes a third recipient at the end of the order, and the certificate then records that too. A cascading period clause needs no extra fields at all: the four initials already record that the restraints as drafted were read before they were agreed.

Why the signed copy matters for a restraint

Restraints are argued about on two grounds: whether the person agreed to that clause, and whether it goes further than the interest it protects. The envelope answers the first cleanly, with four initials, an access code, an IP address, a consent timestamp and a hash chained event log in one certified file. The second is a question for a court, and this page is not legal advice.

What makes this signing flow work

Four restraints, four marks

Each restraint has its own period, its own reach and its own initials box. If a court reads one of them down, the others are still separately marked as read, which is the practical point of drafting and initialling them as four covenants rather than one clause.

An access code suits a leaving employee

A departing employee's work address may already be closed, so an emailed code is the wrong check. The code here went by phone with the final pay summary, and the certificate prints Email link + access code beside the name, which is a fact about a person rather than about an inbox.

The company signs after the person it binds

Sign in order puts the employee first. A restraint the company has already signed and sent looks like a document waiting to be accepted, while one the employee signs first is a promise the company then acknowledges. The order also means nothing is stamped out of sequence.

Questions people ask

What is an access code and who sets it?

The sender types it when adding the recipient, it must be at least four characters, and the API never returns it. The sender shares it with the signer directly rather than by email. Five wrong attempts lock that recipient for fifteen minutes.

Does initialling four boxes mean four signatures?

No. Rowan drew once and the portal filled all four restraint boxes and the page three signature from that single drawing, counting Signature 1 of 5 through 5 of 5 as it scrolled him from one restraint to the next. The marks are separate on the page even though the drawing happened once.

Does the company sign at the same time?

No, and the order is set that way on purpose. A restraint the company has already signed and sent looks like a document waiting to be accepted; one the employee signs first is a promise the company then acknowledges. The director's invitation appears only when that signature lands.

What if the employee refuses to sign?

The envelope moves to declined if they press Decline with a reason, and the sender is emailed that reason. The director is never invited. A restraint that is not signed is not agreed, and a revised one goes out as a fresh envelope rather than an edit.

Does the employee initial each restraint separately?

One drawing fills all four boxes and the page 3 signature at once, and the header counts them from Signature 1 of 5 to 5 of 5 while scrolling to each restraint in turn. The marks are separate on the page even though the drawing was made once.

How long does the employee have to sign?

The envelope works for thirty days from the moment it was created and nothing in the app shortens or extends that. Past it the link reports that the signing request has expired and a new envelope is needed. The restraint periods themselves run from the last day of employment, not from either signature.
