A FlutterFlow alternative: Expo apps written by AI

FlutterFlow is a visual development environment for mobile, web and desktop apps, with 200 plus prebuilt UI elements, Firebase and Supabase integrations, code download and one click store deployment from $39 a month. OneCraft Sites has an AI agent write an Expo and React Native app from a brief, with its own Supabase database, and builds it through Expo.

The short verdict

FlutterFlow is the better pick for a developer or designer who wants to lay out every screen visually, wire logic in an action flow editor, deploy to the stores in one click and export the code to keep working in an IDE. OneCraft suits a business owner who would rather describe the app, have an agent write a whole Expo app with tabs, sign in and a database, and pay $8 to $125 a month with builds at 5 credits each.

Where FlutterFlow is better

Where OneCraft is different

Flutter or Expo

FlutterFlow apps export as Flutter code, and Flutter apps are written in Dart. OneCraft apps are Expo apps, written in TypeScript with React Native, Expo Router and React Native Reusables. Both compile to native iOS and Android. The practical difference is who maintains the code later: a Flutter developer for one, a React Native or web developer for the other. If your website is already React, an Expo app shares more of its skills.

What getting to the stores takes

On OneCraft a paid plan runs an Expo test build, with a QR install on Android or an Expo page on iPhone, or a store build, at 5 credits each, on OneCraft's Expo organisation unless you connect your own token. iPhone builds need your Apple key. You then submit with eas submit from your own accounts: Apple charges 99 USD a year, Google Play 25 USD once, and a new personal Play account tests with 12 people for 14 days first.

What the app cannot do

OneCraft apps have no camera, so no barcode or QR scanning, no live driver tracking, no SMS and no push from a server; an app can schedule local reminders on the device. Payments run through Stripe only. FlutterFlow, as a general app builder with code export, can reach device features through Flutter packages, so an app that depends on the camera or push belongs there or with a developer.

Who should stay with FlutterFlow

Stay with FlutterFlow if you or your developer want to design screens visually, need web and desktop from one project, or plan to take the code into an IDE and keep working in Flutter. Move if you want a business app written for you from a description, in React Native with Expo, and can submit it to the stores from your own accounts.

Questions people ask

Can I edit the code OneCraft writes?

Not inside the builder; files are read only and changes go through the AI chat. You can download the project as a zip with app.json filled and work on it elsewhere, but changes made outside do not sync back, so choose one way of working per project.

Does a OneCraft app need a backend?

Only when a feature needs data. Then the agent turns on a Supabase backend: a schema in OneCraft's pool on every plan, or a project on your own Supabase account. Sign in, Google sign in and every table's access rules are written into that backend and checked.

Can the app send push notifications?

No push reaches phones from a server today. The app can schedule local reminders on the device, such as a reminder before a booked class, after the person turns notifications on in the Account tab. In app notifications show in a bell that checks for new items while the app is open.

What does generating an app cost in credits?

Generation and chat bill model use at 1 credit per US cent, and exports are free. A measured whole pipeline app generation used 55 to 72 credits, so Starter's 500 monthly credits cover several apps and their edits. Each Expo test or store build adds 5 credits, and builds need a paid plan.

Can my app be based on my website?

Yes. When you create an app you can base it on one of your OneCraft websites or on a web address, and the agent takes its colours, fonts, content and, for your own site, its database. The app is still a separate project with its own repository and builds.
