Electrical quote
Electrical quote example for a switchboard upgrade
An electrical quote should name the work, price parts and labour by line, and say what certificate the customer receives. This example from a Geelong electrician replaces a ceramic fuse board with a new switchboard and eight safety switches for $2,820 including GST, with LED downlights and interconnected smoke alarms as options.

What a homeowner looks for in an electrical quote
Most people asking for an electrical quote cannot judge the work itself, so they judge the quote. They want to know what will be done in plain words, what each part costs, whether the electrician is licensed, and what proof they get at the end. This quote answers each one. The scope names the board and the eight circuits counted at the inspection, the letterhead carries the electrician's licence number, the lines separate the board from the safety switches and the testing, and the certificate is promised in both the scope and the price. It also says how long the power will be off, which is the first practical question every household asks.
How the price is built
The new switchboard is $1,680, eight safety switches are $920 at $115 each, and testing with the certificate is $220, a total of $2,820 including $256.37 of GST. The quote is set to tax inclusive because the customers are a household, so every line already includes GST and the summary shows it as Includes GST. LED downlights at $98 each are optional and the customers choose between one and twelve; six adds $588. Interconnected smoke alarms add $555 for three. The 30% deposit, $846 on the default total, covers the materials the electrician buys before the job, and the balance is invoiced when the work is finished.
How to adapt this quote
Count the circuits at the inspection and price per circuit, because that is what changes between houses. Put your licence number in the letterhead and name the certificate your state requires on completion. Keep a note about faults found during testing, since old wiring often turns something up, and promise to quote before fixing. Offer the obvious extras as options rather than upselling on the day: downlights and smoke alarms are the two homeowners most often add when the power is already off. If your customer is a business, switch the quote to prices before GST.
What makes this quote work
Safety switches are priced per circuit
The quote prices eight safety switches at $115 each, one per circuit found at the inspection, so the homeowner can see why the job costs what it does. It also explains in the line why a switch per circuit is better: a fault trips one circuit only.
The certificate is in the price
Testing and the Certificate of Electrical Safety are a $220 line of their own, and the scope promises the certificate on completion. In Victoria that certificate is what proves the work was done by a licensed electrician to standard.
Surprises have a rule
The warning note says that if testing finds a wiring fault, the electrician will show it, quote it and wait for approval. Old switchboard jobs often find one, and saying so before the job starts is what keeps the quote trusted.
Questions people ask
What should an electrical quote include?
The address and the work, the number of circuits or points, each part and its price, testing and the compliance certificate, how long the power will be off, what happens if a fault is found, optional extras, GST, payment terms, warranty and how long the quote is valid. This example covers each on three A4 pages.
How much does a switchboard upgrade cost?
It depends on the number of circuits and the condition of the wiring. This example quotes $2,820 including GST for a new switchboard with a safety switch on each of eight circuits, testing and the certificate. A house with more circuits, or wiring that needs repair, will cost more.
Do I get a certificate after electrical work?
In Victoria a licensed electrician must give you a Certificate of Electrical Safety for most electrical work, and other states have their own compliance certificates. This quote includes the testing and certificate as its own $220 line and promises it on completion. Keep it with your home records.
Should an electrical quote include GST?
For a household, quote prices including GST, because that is what they pay. This quote is set to tax inclusive, so each line already includes GST and the summary shows the GST share. For a business customer, prices before GST with GST added on the subtotal are usual.
Why does the electrician want a deposit?
To pay for materials bought before the job, such as the switchboard and safety switches. This quote asks for 30% on acceptance, issued as an invoice with a card pay link, and invoices the balance on completion. Without a deposit the electrician carries the cost of parts for a job that might not go ahead.

Renovation quote example for a laundry
A renovation quote should price each trade, state any allowances for things the owner still has to choose, and say what contract follows. This example from a Leichhardt builder prices a full laundry renovation at $14,780 including GST, with tiles to an allowance, a 10% deposit, and a note that a written contract follows before work starts.
Copywriting quote for website copy, priced per page
A copywriting quote should price each page or piece separately, say how many rounds of changes are included, and state who owns the words. This example from a Canberra copywriter quotes a small architecture practice's website at $4,390 plus GST, with case studies priced per project so the practice can decide how many to publish.
Landscaping quote example for a back garden makeover
A landscaping quote should price measurable work by the metre or square metre, so the customer can see how the size of the garden drives the cost. This example from a Perth landscaper prices a back garden with a 12 metre retaining wall, 85 square metres of turf, planted beds and reticulation at $12,900 including GST, with paving and lighting as options.
