Candle online store example with sizes and a gift box

Candles are bought on scent and gifted on presentation, so a candle shop has to describe smell in words and show the jar beautifully. This example for an invented Byron Bay maker sells four scents in two sizes, a diffuser, wax melts and a gift box, with care advice and free shipping over $90.

How the store is laid out

The home page has a split hero with a lit candle, a product grid of four bestsellers picked by hand with the free shipping line, two zig-zag feature rows on the wax and the curing, a sideways scrolling strip of the full range, a care FAQ and a newsletter band. Publishing adds a page for every product, a page per collection and the cart page, all from the catalog.

Product pages

Each product page shows the photo beside the price, the size select, a quantity box and Add to cart, with the description under it and a "You may also like" strip. The page layout follows the first product detail section in the site, so changing it once changes every product page.

What makes this website work

Scent described like a perfume

"Salt air, cedar and a little vetiver" tells a shopper more than "ocean scent". Each product description names two or three notes and the burn time, which is what candle buyers compare when they cannot smell through a screen.

Sizes as a variant, not separate products

Each candle has a Size option with a 300 g jar at $42 and a travel tin at $22, so the grid shows one card per scent with a from price. Shoppers choose the scent first and the size second, and the catalog mirrors that.

A gift box with a real saving

The gift box shows $110 against a compare-at price of $112, the cost of its parts bought separately. It is an honest compare-at, which is the only kind worth showing, and it gives gift buyers a one click answer.

Questions people ask

How do I add products to a store like this?

In the store admin, add a product with a title, description, photos and price, or import a CSV exported from Shopify, WooCommerce, Square or a plain sheet, with a dry run first. Each product can have up to three options, such as size, and up to 100 variants with their own price and stock.

How do customers pay?

The cart sends the shopper to Stripe Checkout on your connected Stripe account, so card, Apple Pay and Google Pay are handled by Stripe and the money goes to you. Stores are a paid plan feature, and a platform fee by plan applies on top of Stripe's own fees.

Can I offer free shipping over a set amount?

Yes. Shipping zones have rates, and a rate can be free over an amount, worked out on the goods after any discount. This example states free shipping over $90 in the product grid intro and the FAQ, so the promise and the rule match.

What happens if two people buy the last candle?

Stock is held for 35 minutes from the moment a shopper starts checkout. If the stock runs out, the checkout names the sold out line and the cart re-prices. The browser never sends prices; the server prices every cart from the catalog.

Can visitors install the store like an app?

Stores and menus publish as installable web apps by default, with a manifest, a home screen icon and an offline page. Phone visitors can add the store to their home screen, and you can switch it off in Settings. A separate app store app needs the app export or Code mode.
