Portuguese AI voiceover

Choosing Portuguese gives you a Brazilian voice, one of eight pt-BR characters spanning energetic, instructional, warm and neutral reads. A team in Lisbon should know that up front: European Portuguese exists only through the per-scene catalogue search, not as the default.

pt-BR is the accent you get

The Language map points Portuguese at Brazil, and everything downstream follows: vocabulary the director writes skews Brazilian and the voice carries the open vowels of pt-BR. For a São Paulo property video or a Rio restaurant that is exactly right. For Porto or Luanda it is not, and the route around it is the voice dialog on each scene, where the full Google catalogue is searchable and pt-PT voices live. The narration text does not rewrite itself when you swap voices, so if you want European spellings and phrasing, say so in the brief and the director will write them.

Casting logic behind the eight characters

Style and gender are the director's two casting decisions, made from the tone of your brief. A gym promo lands on Puck or Laomedeia, the energetic pair. Anything that teaches, an app walkthrough or an onboarding piece, is required to use Charon or Erinome; the rule that tutorials never get the ad voice is enforced in code, not left to the model's judgement. Umbriel and Sulafat give the softer read a bakery or a wedding videographer wants, and Iapetus and Aoede are the safe corporate pair. One video, one default voice, overridable scene by scene.

Timing a Romance language

Portuguese needs more syllables than English for the same sentence, and scene durations absorb that automatically: a scene stretches to hold its clip, and under the dynamic pace the overflow of a long line simply plays across the next cut. You still have three manual levers per scene, the delay before the voice starts, a speed from 0.85x to 1.25x, and the text itself. Cutting a subordinate clause beats slowing the read almost every time. Music never needs riding; it drops to 22 percent under every spoken passage and recovers between them.

What to write so it reads right

Prices and numbers deserve words when the spoken form matters, noventa e nove reais rather than R$ 99, because digits let the engine decide. Names from outside Portuguese get spelled the way they sound, there being no phonetic override, so a scene mentioning a Dutch founder may need two or three respelling attempts. Full stops and question marks shape both the read and the caption cuts. And the em dash never appears in generated narration by rule; keep it out of your own edits too, since a comma or a new sentence gives the voice a cleaner breath.

Captions in this script

Captions follow the Brazilian narration word by word, each one brightening the instant the voice reaches it, in a dark pill that ignores the look's colours on purpose so it stays readable everywhere. Portuguese diacritics, ã, õ, ç and the acute and circumflex vowels, sit in the Latin extension every catalogue font includes, so glyphs are never the problem. Sentence length can be: a flowing Portuguese sentence past 48 characters is split across two cues, so scripts built from short declarative sentences caption best.

Questions people ask

Which Portuguese voices are available?

The automatic cast is eight Brazilian Portuguese voices: energetic Puck and Laomedeia, instructional Charon and Erinome, warm Umbriel and Sulafat, neutral Iapetus and Aoede. European Portuguese is not among the defaults, but the per-scene voice search covers the entire Google catalogue, where pt-PT voices are listed.

Does my brief need to be in Portuguese?

No. The Language setting alone decides the narration language, so most people brief in English and receive a fully Portuguese video, spoken lines and on-screen text alike. Anything that must appear verbatim, a slogan or a legal line, should be written into the brief in Portuguese exactly as you want it.

Do captions work in Portuguese?

Yes, and they are text-derived rather than transcribed, so cedillas and tildes are always correct. Each scene captions its own narration by default, with word-level timing measured against the actual audio, and the toggle to disable them sits in the scene's voice dialog for moments where captions would double up with on-screen copy.

The voice says a name wrong. What now?

Edit the narration to a phonetic spelling and regenerate that one clip. This is the standard fix because no phonetic alphabet exists in the product. Brazilian reads of foreign brands usually need a vowel added, so try the respelling aloud first, then spend the regeneration, about half a credit, once you are confident.

How is a Portuguese voiceover priced?

Synthesis is billed by length, about 1 credit per 330 characters with a minimum of half a credit per clip, one clip generally meaning one scene's narration. Everything else around it, editing text, changing speed or delay, toggling captions, is free. The export bills its render time, usually a small amount; past 30 seconds, or with narration still to generate, it needs at least 1 credit left.
