Electronics sale flyer

Rangeview Audio & Vision clears its demonstration room over three weeks, and every unit in the sale has already been switched on in front of a customer. Three flyers cover it. A floor stock sheet defines what marked down means before it names a single price. A quote sheet carries the old price, the number left and the cost of delivery and set up. A four step page explains what happens if something bought in the sale stops working.

The 3 designs

The same business laid out three ways, on three templates and three colour themes. Every price, name and time on these was written for this example, so you can judge the layouts on real content rather than placeholder text.

What makes these work

The floor stock sheet defines the discount before it uses one

The old price is the shelf ticket the shop charged through June and July, and the sheet invites anyone to ask for that label. Only then come three headline units with both numbers against each and the delivery charge. A demonstration room sale lives or dies on whether the old price is believable, so the explanation sits above the prices rather than in a footnote below them.

The quote sheet prices the whole job

Was, how many are left, now, then delivery on the next business day at sixty dollars, wall mounting and set up booked inside five days at one hundred and eighty, and a free fault assessment in three to five working days. A television is rarely one line on a receipt, and a buyer choosing between two shops is comparing the installed price whether the flyer helps them do it or not.

The fault path flyer is written for after the sale

Four numbered steps: bring it in with any proof of purchase, an assessment in the shop’s own workshop, a minor fault repaired at the shop’s choosing, a major fault where the choice belongs to the customer. It also warns in advance that a repair can wipe stored settings and that refurbished parts may be used, which is the warning the law wants given before a repair starts rather than discovered after it.

Questions people ask

Does buying something on sale change your rights?

No. Consumer guarantees attach to the sale of the product, not to the price paid for it, and a business that sells goods which fail one of them has to offer a repair, a replacement or a refund. Warranties sit on top of that. A warranty against defects is an extra promise a business or a manufacturer chooses to make, and it has to carry the mandatory sentence saying the goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. The guarantees keep applying after that warranty expires, which matters most on exactly the kind of stock a floor clearance moves.

When does a repairer have to give a repair notice?

Before it accepts the goods. A written notice is required where the goods can store user generated data, telling the customer that the repair may cause that data to be lost, and where the repairer’s practice is to use refurbished parts or to hand back refurbished goods instead of the original. That second case has prescribed wording: goods presented for repair may be replaced by refurbished goods of the same type rather than being repaired, and refurbished parts may be used to repair the goods. The notice has to be handed, emailed or posted to the customer. A sign on the counter or a link on a website does not count.

Who decides between a repair, a replacement and a refund?

It depends on how bad the failure is. With a minor problem the business chooses, and it usually chooses to repair, free of charge. With a major failure the choice moves to the customer, who can ask for a refund or a replacement, or keep the goods and be compensated for the drop in value. That is the split the fault path flyer prints in four steps. A repair that is never finished, or drags on well past a reasonable time, stops being a minor matter, so a shop publishing a three to five working day assessment window is also setting the clock it will be measured against.

Should a shop tell customers to back up their data first?

Yes, and on the flyer rather than at the counter. Anything holding settings, pairings, recordings or a drive can lose them during a repair, and the notice requirement exists precisely because customers do not expect that. Saying it before they buy, on the same sheet as the price, costs nothing and prevents the argument that follows a wiped machine. The other line worth printing is what proof of purchase will be accepted. A reasonable proof of the transaction is enough, so a bank statement or a lookup by phone will do, and saying so stops a fair claim dying over a lost docket.
