Sale flyer
Wick & Loom is a linen and homewares shop with one ten day sale to advertise, and here it is as three separate flyers. Same dates, same stock, three ways of putting it: one that opens with a photograph of a made bed, one that lays four products out with the old price beside the new one, and one plain sheet that hands the customer the conditions in readable type.
The 3 designs
The same business laid out three ways, on three templates and three colour themes. Every price, name and time on these was written for this example, so you can judge the layouts on real content rather than placeholder text.

What makes these work
One sells the season, one sells the price
The photo led poster names three categories and a single number, up to 40 per cent, which is all a passer by reads from the footpath. The grid gives four products, four old prices and four new ones, which is what somebody already inside the shop is comparing. Neither design tries to do both jobs, and that is why both stay readable.
Only the plain sheet carries the conditions
The third design is the one with a paragraph long enough to say what the was prices mean, when the sale closes and what happens to a returned sale item. That copy would have crowded the poster headline, so it lives on the sheet that sits by the till where somebody has time to read it.
Three weights of colour, not three tints
The poster runs mint and teal on white, the grid is slate grey on bone with the prices carrying the only strong colour on the page, and the sheet is terracotta and cream. Side by side they read as three different shops rather than one flyer recoloured three times.
Questions people ask
How long does a was price have to be real?
Long enough that customers would genuinely have paid it. The ACCC sets no fixed number of days, but in the Federal Court case against the Jewellery Group the court looked back four months before the sale started when deciding whether the higher price was real. If something has been struck through for months on end, that lower figure has quietly become the normal price and calling it a discount is misleading.
What has to go on a sale flyer besides the discount?
An end date, the exclusions and where the offer applies. A flyer counts as a displayed price, so listing specials without saying they run at one store only obliges you to honour them at every store. A stock line such as while stocks last matters too, because advertising a price you cannot supply in reasonable quantities is bait advertising.
Should a sale flyer be A4 or a square social post?
Both, from the same design. Each of these three templates is authored natively at eight canvas sizes, so switching from A4 Portrait to Instagram Post re-lays the design for the new shape instead of stretching it. Print the A4 for the window and post the square the same morning.
Can I change a price after the flyer is designed?
Click the price on the canvas and type over it. In the grid design each price sits in its own slot inside its product card, so correcting one number leaves the photograph, the product name and the discount chip exactly where they were.

Gift card promo flyer
Quillon & Co. sells gift cards from $20 to $500 and has decided the most persuasive thing about them is the law. A card sold in Australia has to last at least three years and cannot be eaten by fees, so all three flyers put that where the discount usually goes: one as a headline over a photograph, one as an editorial page about three ways to give, and one as a numbered rules sheet with the statistics on top.
Summer sale flyer
Tallow Bay Surf Supply runs one three week sale before Christmas and has to say so without inventing a discount. The first flyer is a poster with two photographs and a single number. The second lists three products with the price each one actually sold at through October and November. The third does something almost nobody does on a sale flyer and explains what a was price and an up to figure are allowed to mean.
Clearance sale flyer
A clearance is not a sale with a bigger number on it. Sprocket & Pine has 31 bikes left from the 2025 range, most of them one or two per size, and nothing is being reordered. These three flyers all say that, but each one answers a different question: what is left, what each model now costs, and which bikes suit which rider.
