3 finished designs
Valentines Day flyer
Three Valentines flyers for a Hobart jeweller who makes what it sells. The first puts one ring and one price on the page, the second photographs four gifts from $260 to $980 with the lead time on each, and the third sells the made to order ring in three finishes. Every price appears on more than one sheet and they agree.
The 3 designs
The same business laid out three ways, on three templates and three colour themes. Every price, name and time on these was written for this example, so you can judge the layouts on real content rather than placeholder text.

What makes these work
One price, at the size of the headline
The poster carries a single piece at $420 rather than a range. A shopper deciding whether this jeweller is in their bracket gets an answer in one second, which is all the attention a flyer in a window gets.
The lead time sits on the product, not in the small print
Each of the four gifts carries a badge: today, today, five days, ten days. On 3 February the difference between a piece in the cabinet and a piece made to order is the whole decision.
Every piece is photographed, not described
Studs, chain, band and set ring all appear as photographs beside their price. A jeweller that will not show the thing next to its number reads as a jeweller who would rather you asked.
Questions people ask
What do the numbers stamped on gold mean?
They are the millesimal mark, the parts of pure gold per thousand. Eighteen carat is 750, nine carat is 375, and those two are the alloys used most in Australia. Sterling silver is 925, Britannia silver 958, and the Australian platinum standard is 950. Australia has no hallmarking law, so those marks are a claim under consumer law rather than a certified assay.
When can the word diamond be used on its own?
Only for a natural stone. The industry code follows the international standard on the point, so a laboratory grown stone always carries a qualifier, and whether a stone is natural, laboratory grown, synthetic or a simulant has to be disclosed. Cubic zirconia and moissanite are simulants, not synthetic diamonds, and should not be described as either.
How far ahead should engraving close?
Far enough that a piece can be cut, checked and boxed without a courier in the middle. Five working days is the figure on these flyers, which puts the cut off on 4 February for a Sunday the fourteenth. Print the two dates separately or the in stock buyers will assume the earlier one applies to them too.
Can the flyer show a valuation next to the price?
No. The industry code says a valuation should not be prepared before a sale is made and must not be used alongside comparative price advertising, which rules out the valued at four thousand, yours for fifteen hundred line. A grading report is different and is expected for a diamond over one carat.

End of financial year sale flyer
Every end of financial year flyer in the country leads with a percentage. Calder Workspace fits offices out, so the number that actually decides whether a buyer orders is not the discount, it is the date a desk has to be built and standing in the room. All three of these designs are organised around 12 June and 30 June, and the reductions come second.
Fashion sale flyer
Marlow & Fern takes thirty per cent off its autumn and winter racks for a fortnight and then stops, so the flyers have fourteen days to say who the sale is for and what a reduced ticket actually means. The first is an editorial poster with the dates, the four categories that are reduced and the two that are not. The second is about the fitting room rather than the discount. The third prints the shop’s returns position beside the part of it that is law rather than policy.
Gym and fitness flyer
Three flyers for Ironbark Strength, a coached lifting gym in Fitzroy North. The membership offer goes on the noticeboard with the August deal, first month half price, and both rates in print: full access $34 a week, off-peak $24 a week, no lock-in, pause any time. The programs sheet answers the question people actually ask, what will I do on a Tuesday, with three numbered paths. The open day flyer for Saturday 30 August gets them through the door for free, with the join fee waived on the day.
