- Employer band
- Trading name, legal entity, ABN and the payroll address, repeated on both pages so a single sheet still identifies the employer.

- The four figures an employee checks against their bank app before reading anything else.
- Employee details
- Name, employee number, classification level, employment type and start date, which together decide which rates apply.
- Paid into
- The bank account, the pay cycle and the award the classification comes from.

What makes this document work
Every rate is shown, not just the total
Sixty two ordinary hours, eight at the Saturday rate, six at the Sunday rate and a supervisor allowance, each with its own hours and dollar rate. That is what makes the gross checkable against a roster.
Year to date runs beside every line
A second money column on the earnings and deductions tables answers the questions people actually ask a payroll officer, which are almost never about this fortnight.
Superannuation gets its own section
Fund, unique superannuation identifier, member number, the rate applied to ordinary time earnings and the date the money has to reach the fund. Most payslips reduce that to a single number.

What has to be on an Australian payslip?
Employer name and ABN, employee name, the pay period, the date of payment, gross and net, any loadings, penalty rates, allowances or bonuses, each deduction with who it went to, and the superannuation contribution with the fund.
When does a payslip have to be issued?
Within one working day of the pay day, even if the employee is on leave. It can be given on paper or electronically, and electronic is fine as long as the employee can print it.
Do leave balances have to be on the payslip?
No. Balances are good practice rather than a requirement, though an employer does have to tell an employee their balance when asked. This example prints annual, personal and long service leave with what accrued and what was used.
Why is the employer superannuation not taken out of the net pay?
Because it is paid on top of wages, not out of them, so it never appears in the deductions table. The salary sacrifice line is different: that is the employee choosing to send part of their own pay to the same fund.
