Custom furniture order form with dimensions, timber and finish

A custom furniture order form has to capture exact dimensions, the timber and the finish, plus how the finished piece gets through the door, because a made to measure table cannot be returned. This one takes the size as one line of three numbers, asks about stairs and hallways, and records a signed deposit agreement.

Commission a piece

Brackenwood Joinery. Tables, benches, sideboards and shelving made by hand to your measurements in solid timber. Send the order below and a drawing and fixed quote follow within five business days. Making starts once the drawing is approved and the deposit is paid.

The piece

Measure in centimetres. For a table, height is to the top surface. For shelving, give the outside size of the whole unit. If the piece must fit an alcove, measure the alcove at the top, middle and bottom and give the smallest width.

Delivery

Agreement

A 40 percent deposit is due when you approve the drawing, because the timber is bought and cut for your piece alone. The deposit is not refundable once cutting has started. The balance is due on delivery.

What each field on this form collects

Piece is a dropdown of seven, from dining table to desk. A paragraph explains how to measure, including the smallest width of an alcove. Size is one fill in the blank line, width, depth and height in centimetres, each blank a number. Timber is a radio of four, white oak, American walnut, Tasmanian blackwood and recycled hardwood, beside finish, a radio of four from hard wax oil to raw. Reference photos is an optional upload of up to five images. Delivery access is a radio of five, from ground floor to stairs with a turn. The delivery address follows. A paragraph sets out the deposit, then a single required checkbox acknowledges it. Name and email sit side by side, and a signature closes the form. Ten of the eleven fields are required.

Why delivery access is asked before the price

A dining table 220 cm long fits the room and still fails to get there, because the hallway turns or the stair has a landing. Workshops learn this the expensive way. Asking about steps, turns and lifts at the order stage means the drawing can show a table with removable legs or a sideboard in two parts when the access needs it. The last option, not sure, please call, is there because a guess is worse than a phone call. The reference photo upload helps too: a photo of the hallway with a tape measure in shot settles most questions.

How to adapt this form

An upholsterer swaps timber and finish for frame style and a fabric dropdown, and asks for a fabric swatch choice. A kitchen joiner replaces the size line with a table of cabinets and their widths. A workshop selling a fixed range in custom lengths keeps only the width blank and lists the set depth and height in the paragraph.

What makes this form work

All three dimensions in one line

A fill in the blank sentence reads width, depth and height in centimetres, each blank a number. Nobody gives two measurements and forgets the third, and the unit is fixed in the text.

Access is a design question

Five options cover a ground floor, a few steps, a turning stair, a lift and not sure. A narrow stair answered here becomes removable legs on the drawing, not a table stuck in the hall.

The deposit term is signed

A paragraph states the 40 percent deposit and when it becomes non refundable, a required checkbox acknowledges it and the signature sits below. The term is agreed before the timber is bought.

Questions people ask

Why is the deposit for custom furniture not refundable?

Because the timber is bought and cut to the customer's measurements, and a 190 cm walnut top cannot be sold to anyone else. The paragraph above the checkbox says the deposit becomes non refundable once cutting starts, not when the form is sent. A customer who changes their mind before the drawing is approved has paid nothing.

How should someone measure for a made to measure bookshelf?

Give the outside size of the whole unit, and for an alcove, measure the width at the top, middle and bottom and use the smallest. Walls are rarely square. The paragraph above the size line says exactly this, and a reference photo with a tape measure lets the workshop check before drawing.

Which timber suits a dining table?

Any of the hardwoods on this form. White oak is hard and pale, walnut is darker and slightly softer, Tasmanian blackwood has a strong figure, and recycled hardwood carries nail holes and colour variation. The workshop explains the choice in the drawing, so the form asks for a preference rather than a decision.

Does a signature on this form make it a contract?

It records that the customer read and agreed to the deposit terms, which is evidence of agreement. The binding price comes later, in the fixed quote attached to the drawing. The signature is drawn or typed on the form and printed into the response PDF, so the workshop has a dated copy with the order.

What if the customer does not know their access?

They choose the last option, not sure, please call to check. A wrong guess costs a failed delivery, while a phone call costs five minutes. For anything over two metres or heavier than two people can carry, the workshop calls regardless and may design the piece to come apart.

Why ask for the finish separately from the timber?

Because the same oak looks different under hard wax oil, a white tint or lacquer, and the finish also decides how the surface is cared for. Oiled tops can be spot repaired; lacquer resists water rings better. Asking both side by side lets the drawing show the combination the customer will actually live with.
